FREE PLANTS!!!

These planters are being replaced soon and to avoid throwing away all of these fabulous succulents, we are offering them to anyone who would like to either take cuttings or take whole plants. Please contact Clancey if you are interested. They need to be removed by Friday 13th March.

Garden

This fortnight our year 6 teams started tending to their garden beds. They prepared an assessment of the plot along with a preparation plan so they knew what they are keeping or removing. Some teams removed everthing from their plots while others chose to keep some things for their designs and also so we can continue to harvest in kitchen.

Year 4 have started learning about propagation. This fortnight we did cuttings so that we can get a good start on our seedlings for the fair. We planted rosemary, salvia, sage and mint.

Last week we also tapped into our creative side with journalling with some writing beautiful poems and others drawing flowers and insects they discovered in The Patch.

This round we looked at cooking "more with less" as we learned to be flexible with our recipes to use seasonable and available ingredients.  Our "pear" crumble became apple crumble with an abundant harvest from our garden, and our Apple and celery salad celebrated the Nashies also harvested from the garden.  We explored some different techniques this week rolling out our Spring onion pancakes to form a flaky dough, which surprised students with how such simple ingredients could create something so delicious!

SURFSIDE SNACK SHACK

Our Snack Shackers made amazing chocolate hedgehog this week and also served up yummy frozen watermelon. The students are getting more confident in the canteen and serving their customers. They are starting to learn money handling skills and doing a brilliant job with food handling  skills. If anyone is interested in helping out with this program, we meet on a Tuesday session 5 (2.15-3.15). Please contact Clancey to see how you can get involved!

SHREDDED PAPER!

We need your shredded paper for our compost bins. If you have access to shredded paper at home or work, we would like you to donate it. You can leave it at the office or drop off to the garden Tues, Wed and Thursdays

Please make sure you check into the office to complete your volunteer induction (everyone must complete this each year - even if you have volunteered in the past) and have a valid Working With Children Check.
