Principal Report

On Tuesday, 10th March 2026, Rochester Secondary College staff participated in a professional learning day with a strong focus on Teaching and Learning, centred on the Victorian Teaching and Learning Model (VTLM).
The day began with a recap of VTLM 2.0 and the final elements of the model, helping staff continue to build a shared understanding of high-quality teaching practice across the college. The day also provided dedicated time for domains and staff to work collaboratively on curriculum planning, consistency of practice, and strengthening teaching through shared expectations and collective planning. This work continues to be an important part of building a more consistent whole-school approach to teaching and learning at Rochester Secondary College.
The Rochester Lions Club recently again hosted the Lions Youth of the Year competition, with Rochester Secondary College proudly represented by Kaylah Moon, Maddie Howard, Eden Beaumont and Paige Simmie. All four students did an outstanding job, speaking confidently and thoughtfully across a range of areas. Congratulations to Paige, who was awarded the public speaking section of the competition, and to Eden, who was named the overall winner. We are very proud of the efforts of all four students and the way they represented themselves and the college throughout the event.
Student in Years 7 and 9 recently participated in NAPLAN testing. This is an Australia wide Literacy and Numeracy testing program. These tests cover a large range of areas in numeracy and literacy and provide schools with general data trends.
Families are also advised that The Australian Education Union has informed me that industrial action is scheduled to occur on Tuesday, 24th March. The majority of staff are expected to participate in the 24 hour strike. There will be major disruptions and class cancellations across all year levels on that day, therefore we advice you to plan alternative arrangements. Further information will be communicated to families via Compass on Monday afternoon.
