PBL
At SFS, our PBL (Positive Behaviours for Learning) school wide expectations are:
Respect, Responsibility and Kindness
We have a whole school social skills lesson where we explicitly teach an expected behaviour from our Behaviour Expectation matrix.
This week we have focused on Respect, Listen and Follow instructions. We have had a particular focus this week on wearing the correct school uniform.
The teachers discussed with the students why it is important for them to wear the correct school uniform to school. When we listen and follow instructions everyone feels respected and heard and it keeps us all safe. We wear the correct school uniform because it helps us maintain a safe, inclusive and focused learning environment. It fosters team spirit and community and teaches us to have pride in our school and teaches us responsibility.
Here are two of our lucky raffle winners from the last week of Term 2 who have been demonstrating expected behaviours at school. Well done to the students!
Child Safety standards
To highlight the importance of Child Safety in schools, MACS (Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools) has created a resource called “11 standards in 11 months.”
Let’s look at Child standard 11 in more detail through a newsletter created for parents and carers by MACS. Child safe standard 11 is the “Policies and procedures document how the organisation is safe for children and young people”.
Respectful Relationships
The Respectful Relationships program is an educational initiative that teaches students how to build healthy relationships, develop resilience, and promote gender equality. Operating from early childhood through to Year 12, it acts as a primary prevention strategy designed to address the root causes of family and domestic violence before they start.
At SFS, the students are taught the program as part of the SWAP (Student Wellbeing and Performing Arts) Specialist fortnightly class. The students also have “Circle Time” fortnightly on a Friday in their Homegroup where they explore the curriculum. This term, our focus is on Topic 8: Positive Gender Relationships. Students learn to challenge gender stereotypes and respect differences in people.
