Auslan

Michelle Rees

In Term 3, students will develop their Auslan storytelling skills by learning how to use techniques such as depicting signs and constructed action. Through engaging activities, they will explore how these features help signers bring stories to life by showing actions, characters, and emotions in a visual and expressive way. Students will learn to retell the story Where is the Green Sheep? in Auslan before applying their knowledge to create and perform their own class story, Where is the School Dog? featuring Bella, our own school dog. This process will support students in building confidence, creativity, and fluency in using Auslan to communicate ideas and tell engaging stories.

In Term 3, students will continue to learn how artists use lines, shapes, colours, and patterns to make their artworks. They will develop their skills in the areas of textiles, collaging, printmaking, and painting. Some activities include a collaged city landscape, an abstract reduction gelli print, and an ‘International Dot Day’ painted dot. Artists and inspiration for the artwork completed this term come from Friedensreich Hundertwasser, Henri Mattise, and ‘International Dot Day’. In addition to this, students will have regular opportunities to discuss their own artwork and that of others.
