DONUTS

Senior students learned how to make donuts using silicon moulds to cook in the oven. You can also adapt this recipe for a piemaker. This is a lighter and healthier alternative to deep frying.

INGREDIENTS:                                     Equipment: silicon moulds or piemaker

340g packet vanilla cake mix.

1 egg, beaten.

½ cup water

¼ cup vegetable oil

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. In a bowl, whisk the cake mix. Make a well in the centre and add the egg, water, and vegetable oil. Gently fold to combine.
  2. Pour 1/3 cup of mixture into piemaker holes. Turn pie maker on, close lid and cook for 4 minutes.
  3. Carefully flip and cook for another 4 minutes.
  4. Remove and use an apple corer to cut an inside circle from the cake. Whilst hot, dust generously with cinnamon sugar before serving.

If using the oven preheat the oven 180 C and cook for 15 minutes. Ice and decorated donuts with sprinkles or simply dust with cinnamon and sugar.

Instructions (what to do):1. Add all ingredients into a large, microwave safe mug.

2. Mix with a small whisk or fork until the batter is smooth.

3. Place mug in microwave and cook for one minute or until the cake cooks. You will need to adjust the cooking time depending on how powerful your microwave is.

4. Let the vanilla mug cake cool for a few minutes.
