Curriculum Day

On Friday, March 21st, teachers participated in a Curriculum Day with literacy consultant Narissa Leung from OzLit Teacher.

A former primary school principal, Narissa is passionate about ensuring all students have access to high-quality literacy instruction. She believes in using mentor texts to model excellent writing, allowing students to see and analyse strong examples rather than just being told what good writing looks like. Her work with the 6+1 Traits of Writing aligns with our school's Annual Implementation Plan (AIP) goal of embedding consistency in writing instruction.

Not only did staff deepen their understanding of effective writing instruction, but they also had to step outside their comfort zones—Narissa made everyone write! Teachers embraced the challenge of writing for enjoyment, experimenting with creativity, and revising their own work just as students do. It was a great reminder of the writing process from a learner’s perspective! Through engaging discussions, hands-on learning, and a few nervous giggles, Narissa inspired staff to reflect on their own writing instruction and embed these approaches into daily practice, ensuring school-wide consistency.
