Prep S

We have been having so much fun in Prep S!

The last 2 weeks, we have been going to Swimming and it has been wonderful to see all students have a go, learn new skills and have lots of fun. They have been practising important water-safety skills, learning new swimming techniques and are becoming more comfortable and capable in the water. Each day they have shown Respect, Responsibility and Resilience by listening to their swimming instructors, following routines, looking after their belongings and overcoming new challenges, which has seen them all develop their independence.

Last week we celebrated Book Week and we loved dressing up as some of our favourite book characters. We shared stories that we love and explored new texts, discussing what makes a book enjoyable to read. We also spoke about the who, where, problem and solution in stories, which helps us with our narrative writing. Sarah Allen visited and showed us how she takes an idea and turns it into a book, both as an author and an illustrator, which inspired many Prep students to create their very own books.

This week we have loved visiting the Art Show and seeing our work on display. It was amazing to see the creativity from all students across the school.

Celebrating Book Week in the Library

Last week, we had an amazing Book Week Parade, and it was wonderful to see our students and staff embrace the magic of books! Our school community came together dressed as favourite book characters, bringing stories to life through creativity, imagination and some fantastic costumes.

Throughout the term, our Library lessons have been filled with stories, creativity, discussion and opportunities to celebrate our love of reading. Students have been exploring the 2026 Book Week shortlisted books, discovering new authors and illustrators, and responding to the stories through a range of engaging activities.

Each year level has explored a selection of shortlisted books:

  • Prep: Dob and Bob, The Frog’s First Song and My Nonno Loves Me
  • Grade 1/2: Dob and Bob, Once I Was a Giant and Frogs Are Our Friends
  • Grade 3/4: Dob and Bob and Beyond the Shore
  • Grade 5/6: Once I Was a Giant and Beyond the Shore

Students have responded to these wonderful stories by exploring characters, settings, themes, key messages and ideas, as well as sharing their favourite parts and making connections to their own experiences and the world around them.

The students have also spent the first few Library lessons of the term creating artwork inspired by their book responses. They have used their creativity and imagination to represent characters, ideas, themes and messages from the stories they have explored. We are so proud of the wonderful pieces they have created and look forward to you viewing their fantastic artworks at this week’s Art Show!

Our Grade 5/6 students took a closer look at Once I Was a Giant by Zeno Sworder. After exploring the story and learning about fascinating scientific discoveries surrounding the social lives of trees, students created posters showcasing the key messages and scientific ideas they discovered. Their work encouraged them to think deeply about the ways trees communicate, support one another and interact with the natural world.

Across all year levels, students have enjoyed bringing their responses to life through creative art, thoughtful discussion and meaningful connections. It has been wonderful to see our students reading, questioning, imagining and creating as they explore the wonderful world of books.

Book Week has been a fantastic celebration of the joy, wonder and power of stories, reminding us that every book has something special to share. 📚✨
