Grade 1 News!

What a busy and productive time we have had so far in Term 3!

We have been enjoying our Independent Reading and building on our reading comprehension skills. During Reading, we explore a new Big Book, with ‘Spiro’ being a hit this week! The students were involved in some great activities as we discussed the characters, events and message of the story.

Spelling is another highlight of our week. Grade 1 students are working on individual words to practise. We are learning to use these words correctly when applying them in our writing.

Writing time is very productive in our class. We have been using a range of prompts to inspire our writing. Our focus has been on engaging readers, using capital letters in the correct places and adding interesting vocabulary to make our writing more exciting. We also love sharing our writing pieces with Mrs Kennedy and Mrs Kimmorley!

Maths Groups continue to be a favourite part of our day! We are enjoying our fluency tasks, including Blitz Master and Number of the Day! This fortnight, we are exploring all things fractions and developing our understanding through a range of hands-on activities.

We are also developing our drawing skills with weekly Directed Drawing sessions. We have been focusing on drawing characters from our Big Books and creating drawings connected to our Theme work.

As you can see, we have been very busy in Grade 1! We are looking forward to all the exciting events that are happening at Toolamba Primary School.
