Dear Parents

Welcome back for Term Two!

I trust you all had a great Easter break, whether at home or away. Following an extremely busy Term One, it was great to recharge the batteries in preparation for the new school term. For school staff, the holiday break is always a mixture of work, rest and play. As a staff we enter the term with a great sense of optimism for a successful term of learning. It is another very busy term with two camps, a variety of representative sports for our middle and senior students and preparation for the Art Show in Term 3.

Holy Week

As a school community we gathered together on Wednesday to celebrate the Resurrection and the Easter season, with the promise of renewed hope and love. During the last week of Term 1, we had three prayer services reflecting on the different days in Holy Week. All services were very meaningful and the students participated with reverence and respect.

ANZAC Day

Last week, the classrooms were a hive of activity and all classes had a focus on ANZAC Day. The smell of ANZAC biscuits was wafting through the school on Friday, thanks to the 1/2 students. Yesterday afternoon we also commemorated ANZAC Day, one of our most important national days of commemoration, with a service to end the school day. We remembered and honoured all those who have served in wars, conflicts and peacekeeping operations around the world, including the first ANZACs who fought at the Gallipoli campaign in Turkey during World War I.

Anzac Day Schools’ Awards - Thank you

The year 5/6 students will be participating in the Anzac Day Schools’ Awards hosted by the Department of Veterans' Affairs. This meaningful national competition recognises the incredible work of students and teachers, while encouraging young people to connect with veterans and current-serving ADF members, and explore important aspects of Australia’s wartime history.

Our Year 5/6 staff and students are very grateful to Alex from Bluewave Plumbing Solutions for the generous donation of materials to support their project. Your kindness has made a real difference to our students’ learning experience.

Mother’s Day

Mother’s Day is quickly approaching. As a school we will be celebrating mothers and the special women in our lives on Thursday 7 May at 2.00pm. Please fill in the form by Friday 1 May to assist us with catering and inform us of any dietary requirements.

The Mother’s Day Stall will also be held on Thursday 7 May. Gifts range from $2 - $10. Don’t forget to send your child’s money in a named envelope. The gifts my children buy at the stall and the cards they make are always my favourite presents!

Disco Club

The Parent’s Association is organising a Disco Club here at school on Saturday night 30th May for all the mums. It is guaranteed to be a great night: no children and no partners! Further information will be coming soon.

School Photos

Holy Trinity and St. Mary’s school photo day is Wednesday 13th May. An email was sent to parents last Thursday informing parents about school photos and contained the information you need to order your photos. Please check your child’s school bag if you don’t have their form yet, as each form has a unique code.

Mini Vinnies - Food If You Need It!

Our Mini Vinnies students have been working hard on a wonderful new initiative. As a part of our mission to ‘love one another’ Mini Vinnies are asking families to double a recipe to help others. Families who might be in need, will be able to take a meal from the freezer. At various times we may all need a hand, and with the cost of living impacting everyone, this is an easy way to help others in our immediate community.

A big thank you to the Parents Association for their fundraising, which has paid for a freezer to store the food.

What to do if you would like to offer your cooking services (you don’t have to be a fantastic cook), email Andrea Dowling: adowling@htws.catholic.edu.au

Your name will be added to a spreadsheet and you will be contacted when it is your turn to cook. The Mini Vinnies students wish to freeze pre-cooked meals such as pasta, stews, casseroles or anything you love to cook that can be frozen. Please use a container that you don’t need back and stick a list of all the ingredients to the lid.

Donations will be delivered to the office and taken to the freezer. As soon as we have a few meals stored we will inform you how to collect a meal if needed.

School Crossing Safety Camera Pilot

Knox City Council and the Knox Highway Patrol team have been working in partnership with Holy Trinity School to improve safety for students, crossing supervisors, and the broader school community. Lottie (the crossing mascot) will once again be visiting Holy Trinity on Thursday the 30th of April from 8:15 to 8:50 am on. Lottie will be outside school, by the crossing to greet students and promote safety. Please ensure you follow all road rules as any breeches are filmed and you may recieve a fine. Child safety is our greatest priority.

Toys & Swap Cards at school

'Squishy' Toys

Further to the email sent to parents last week regarding safety issues associated with 'squishy' toys, we wish to remind parents and students that these items are no longer permitted at school.

Due to recent incidents where liquid- or gel-filled “squishy” toys have broken and created safety hazards we ask families to ensure they are not brought to school; any such items will be confiscated and returned at the end of the day or held at the office for collection. Thank you for your support in helping us maintain a safe environment for all students.

Footy Cards

Students are welcome to bring items such as footy cards to school; however, swapping or trading of cards and toys is not permitted. This helps prevent disagreements and ensures all students’ belongings remain safe. We appreciate your support in reinforcing this expectation with your child.

Government Secondary School Applications - Yr 7 2027

A reminder to Year 6 parents that the Year 6 to 7 Placement Information Pack for Parents & Carers is now available for parents who wish to enrol their child into a government secondary school for the 2027 school year. Please refer to the email sent to parents last week for further information regarding the process. It is important to note that applications are to be submitted directly to the Government Secondary Schools and that applications close on Friday 8th May, 2026.

Student Achievement in Squash - Ria D

We congratulate Ria who recently competed in the Australian Junior Open in the Under 13 Girls category, gaining valuable experience at an international junior event. She played three matches, first against Hong Kong where she lost but went on to win her other two matches against Sri Lanka and Norfolk Island. Please read further on in the Newsletter to learn more about Ria's journey.

I would like to thank all members of our community who have helped me while Steve has been traipsing around America, particularly the staff. We are blessed at Holy Trinity and St. Mary’s with staff who work hard, have fun with each other and constantly offer to help, it is why I keep working here. Steve will be back on Thursday and we all look forward to his return.
