Principal's Message

8th of December 2023

Dear TCPS Families,

TCPS students again, represented our school with pride within our community this week with the swimming program at leisure Link, Year 3 at White’s Beach and our Year 1 students playing at the Elephant Walk playground. Thank you to our students and teachers for making these events such an enjoyable time for all.

With next week being our last full week for 2024, it brings further celebrations but some sadness too.

On Monday evening we formally celebrate the graduating students in Year 6. Many of our Year 6 students have been at our school since it began six years ago, and along the way we have had many more students join in on the TCPS experience. Students will be recognised, celebrated and fare welled at the ceremony.

Tuesday 12th November is formally known as the State-wide Transition Day within schools. On this day from 9:00am until recess, all students will move up to their 2024 year level and complete activities and games with their peers and teachers. Students may be split into groups on this day which are not their 2024 homegroups. Students homegroup and teacher for 2024 will be announced via the students’ reports which will go live on Compass, Friday 15th November.

Our Specialist Teachers will be taking our students into Waurn Ponds to watch a Movie throughout next week. Year levels will be going on different days, these are listed below. We’d like to express our gratitude to the Specialist Team for organising this excursion/activity for our students.

Movie Days and Classes:

Monday 11th December: Year 2

Tuesday 12th December: State-wide Transition Day

Wednesday 13th December: Years 3 and 5

Thursday 14th December: Years 1 and 4

Friday 15th December: Prep and Year 6

Students in all year levels will also be eagerly practising their year level’s performance for our whole school celebration gathering. This will be held on the basketball courts, on Tuesday 19th December which our families are warmly welcome to attend.

Much to celebrate and look forward to over the coming week.

Look what elves at school have been up to!

Student Leadership

After an arduous and intensive selection process, hence was the plethora of available and highly capable candidates, our 2024 School Captains was announced this week. It was never going to be an easy process as our inaugural prep cohort have finally arrived on the doorstep of Grade 6 and their final year at TCPS.

Our 2024 School Captains are as Follows:

Grace McElhinney

Koa Carton

Millah Sinclair

Pia Monk

Our House Captain selection process will commence in the near future.

Thankyou to all our TCPS Community for your support this week for all things TCPS.

Enjoy the weather and the gift of our surroundings.

Stay safe

General Information for Reference

Students Exiting at the end of the 2023 School Year

We are in the process of organising student allocations to  2024 Home Groups. If you are moving away and your child will be leaving us at TCPS, please let the office know as soon as possible to assist with our 2024 planning. Please email the office at torquay.coast.ps@education.vic.gov.au.Thank you for your assistance with this.

Parking at Front of School

It has again been brought to the school's attention, the frustration being experienced by parents caused by drivers who are breaching the parking sign regulations and exiting their parked car in the 2 minute 'Drop and Go' standing zone. Whilst the shire does manage parking zones and all external road issues, we do feel obliged to pass on the impact and frustrations being experienced by parents in the hope of it being a friendly reminder.

School Grounds Maintenance

Due to the gradual and progressive deterioration of the school fencing, the fencing panels will need to be replaced. Key panels will be progressively replaced by temporary fencing until such time a contractor can be engaged to replace the existing fence with something more sustainable.

Whilst the company responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of our school grounds and facilities were very apologetic, they were reassured that although there would be an aesthetic impact on the façade, it was what lay within our boundaries that was most important.

TCPS ASSEMBLY

We love that our families are once again able to return to our school assembly. Our assembly is a very important part of our week. It is an opportunity to proactively reinforce our school culture and expectations through the acknowledgement and celebration of our students and school. Love of Learning is a key Character Strength of focus.

The inclusion of photos and emails celebration our school and students in and around our community is a key part of our assembly. Due to the substantial amount of time required to process all inclusions, internal and external, and then to build into our assembly visual format, can I please request that all items are sent to me by Thursday prior to assembly. If these emails/photos are sent to the school office or your child's teacher - they will be forwarded to me to 'process'.

Ideally, they can be sent directly to me via email darren.roskosch@education.vic.gov.au

Elements that TCPS families can contribute to our TCPS Assembly

TCPS Goes Global: Take a school flag (we have 5) or a TCPS polo on your journeys around the globe and send us a photo (3 max). I will then feature this at our assembly and have a photo added to our display wall at the front office.

TCPS Super Stars: If you know a TCPS child/teacher/family member who has achieved something amazing in any field (not just sporting) please send me the details and a possible photo so that we can all celebrate and acknowledge the achievement.

TCPS: Shout Outs: If you have a special family member visiting for the first time who are in an audience - please let me know and I will give them a special TCPS 'Shout Out.'

Early Pick up of Children from School

Can I please request that parents contact individual staff members as early as possible if you are collecting your child/ren prior to the end of the school day. This will help in organising for children to be sent to the office ready for collection. Based on the increasing frequency of these occurrences we are unable to use the PA system due to the distraction and disruption it causes to teaching and learning across the school.

PA announcements occur in recess and lunch breaks.

As teachers do not have constant access to emails during the day, I encourage as much advanced notice as possible so we can do our best to have your child/ren ready and waiting for collection. Office staff will do their best to support you where possible, however with our increasing size there may be unfortunate delays especially if no advanced notice is provided.
