Building independence at Naranga

This term, Sinead and the occupational therapy students, Jess and Sophia, have been working with Junior Youl and Junior Malcolm to build the independence of students to tie their shoe laces.

Students have practiced using the practice board, tying their laces on their own shoes and have engaged in fun fine motor activities to build their fine motor strength and control.

Practicing at home

Here are the steps students have followed to learn how to tie their shoe laces. The OT team supported students to practice the LAST step first to build confidence and success. Once this step has been mastered, they practiced the second last step and so on.

Have fun!
