Welcome back!

The September school holidays have come and gone (albeit quickly!), and Monday marks the beginning of Term 4 and the final stretch of the school year. Very exciting!

Whether you're a principal, teacher, education support staff member, administrator, or work in another area of education, Term 4 can be one of the busiest periods of the year. With so much happening professionally and personally, financial planning can easily find its way to the bottom of the list.

At Frontier Financial Group, we are proud to support all people working in education and the people they love, helping individuals and families make informed financial decisions that create greater confidence and security for the future.

As you head into the final term, here are three financial planning areas worth keeping on your radar.

1. Is Your Retirement Plan Still on Track?

For many people working in education, retirement can feel like something that can be dealt with “later”. But as the years pass, having a clear idea of what you want retirement to look like, and whether you're financially on track to achieve it, becomes increasingly important.

Consider asking yourself:

  • Have your retirement goals or timeframe changed?
  • Do you know how much income you may need to support the lifestyle you want?
  • Is your current superannuation and investment strategy aligned with your objectives?
  • Have you reviewed your retirement projections recently?

Even small changes made now can have a meaningful impact over time. Regularly reviewing your position can help you understand where you stand and whether there are opportunities to strengthen your retirement strategy.

2. Are You Making the Most of Your Superannuation?

For many Australians, superannuation is one of their largest financial assets outside the family home, yet it can be easy to simply let it run in the background.

Depending on your circumstances, it may be worth considering:

  • Salary sacrifice contributions to help build your retirement savings.
  • Whether your current investment option remains appropriate for your goals and stage of life.
  • Personal deductible super contributions where appropriate.
  • Spouse contributions or contribution splitting to help balance retirement savings across the household.

Superannuation rules and contribution opportunities can be complex, which is why reviewing your strategy before retirement is approaching can be worthwhile.

3. Don't Wait Until June to Think About Tax

Tax planning often becomes a focus as the end of the financial year approaches, but good financial planning happens throughout the year.

Thinking ahead may give you more time to consider opportunities to:

  • Improve the tax efficiency of your investments.
  • Make use of available superannuation contribution opportunities.
  • Structure your finances appropriately for your family's circumstances.
  • Understand how financial decisions today could affect your position in the future.

Rather than waiting until May or June, Term 4 can be a good reminder to start thinking about the bigger financial picture.

Make the Final Term Count

Term 4 has a habit of moving quickly. Before long, the school year will be wrapping up and the summer holidays will be here.

While the months ahead will no doubt be busy, taking some time now to review your finances can help you head towards the end of the year with greater clarity and confidence about where you're going.

If you've been putting off reviewing your superannuation, retirement plans, investments or broader financial position, we'd be delighted to help.

Wishing everyone in education a successful and rewarding Term 4 and a fantastic finish to the school year.
