Religious Education

Thank you so much to all the parents, grandparents, and friends who joined us for our Year Prayer Liturgy, "Love One Another," where the children were thrilled to celebrate their love of Jesus and each other. We recognize that busy schedules and commitments kept some families from attending, so we invite everyone to view the setup of our sacred prayer space below. English

Our classroom was buzzing with excitement a few weeks ago as we teamed up with our wonderful Year 5 buddies for a special research session! Together, the buddy pairs dived into the fascinating world of animals to kickstart our new non-fiction writing unit. 

With the guidance and support of their Year 5 buddies, students explored a range of resources to discover amazing facts about their chosen animals. The Year 5 did a fantastic job helping us organize our findings into an Information Report planning template—assisting with spelling, encouraging big ideas, and guiding research on habitats, diets, and unique characteristics. 

Building on their research, our Year 1 students have been working collaboratively to transform their facts into complete sentences for each section of their information reports. Having successfully written their draft copies, the children are now excitedly typing their work into Google Slides to publish their findings. We can’t wait to see their digital creations printed and compiled into a special class book for everyone to enjoy!

English: 

Our Year 5 students have been busy developing their persuasive writing and creative literacy skills in English!

Students recently explored the question “Should Jandamarra be as well known as Ned Kelly?” They researched the life and significance of Jandamarra and used their findings to develop persuasive arguments, supporting their opinions with evidence and strong persuasive language.

This week, students have taken their learning in a creative direction by creating comic strips based on an Aboriginal historical figure. They have combined historical research with storytelling, dialogue, illustrations and narrative techniques to bring their chosen figure and their story to life.

It has been wonderful to see students engage with Australian history while developing their confidence as writers and creators!

Maths: 

Year 5 has been exploring geometry to discover that angles really are all around us! From a turning door handle to the precision built into everyday architecture and design, angles help shape our world.

As part of this unit, students are mastering key mathematical terms—identifying the two straight lines as arms and the point where they meet as the vertex. Going beyond static shapes on a page, they've been spotting "invisible angles" in daily motion, like tracking the angle of rebound when a ball bounces off a wall, or determining what angle they need to kick a soccer ball to score a goal.

The class is also gaining hands-on experience using protractors, although their accuracy with reading angles still requires practice. A key focus has been learning to estimate first. By using a 90° right angle as a benchmark, students can gauge whether an angle is larger or smaller before measuring, helping them avoid simple scale-reading mistakes and ensuring precision every time! 

These holidays, we encourage students to try spotting acute, right, obtuse, straight and reflex angles in all kinds of positions, recognising that an angle’s measurement never changes—no matter how it's turned!

Religion: 

Week 8 was a particularly special week for our Year 5 students as we came together to celebrate our class liturgy. It was a beautiful opportunity for our students to pause, reflect and share in a meaningful celebration of our faith with our school and wider community.

We were especially grateful to have so many of our students’ families join us for this special occasion. Having our families there made the celebration even more meaningful, as we were able to come together in faith, reflection and community.

Our students participated with such enthusiasm and reverence, and it was wonderful to see them share this special moment with the people who are so important to them. It was truly a memorable celebration for our Year 5 community. ❤️
