New Canteen Freezer

Our school canteen is excited to announce the purchase of a brand-new double-door freezer!

This upgrade replaces three smaller freestanding units and will help streamline daily operations. The improved storage space makes it much easier for our supervisors and volunteers to organise and access lunch items efficiently. The new freezer is already making a positive difference, enhancing our canteen facilities for the benefit of all students and staff.

Platform & Co

We are thrilled to be working with Mr Rodney Kirk from Platform & Co again this term! With a strong focus on athletic skills, our Primary students participated in sessions to further develop their techniques in long jump, high jump, and shot put. They also completed targeted drills to refine their three-point start position for running events.

Our Infants students commenced their sessions with Platform & Co last week and have been building fundamental motor skills that support athletics through a variety of fun and engaging games. This week, they played Hand Grenade, a throwing game that mimics shot put, where the teams aim to have the least number of tennis balls on their side of the line.

To support long jump and high jump development, they played Paper, Scissors, Rock/Hula Hoop, a fun activity that helps them discover their dominant leg for jumping.

To finish their sessions, they completed a circuit around the multipurpose course that required them to alternate between crab crawling, jumping and one-foot hopping. This encouraged the students to change the way their body moved as well as demonstrate their agility.

These sessions are not only helping students improve their athletic abilities, but also building their confidence and coordination.

 Grandparents and Special Persons Day

Last Thursday, we celebrated Grandparents and Special Persons Day at St Francis Xavier’s with an amazing gathering of members from our school community! Visitors enjoyed morning tea on the lawn, followed by a special assembly.

At the assembly, we were treated to musical performances by the School Band, Kindergarten, Year 1 and Stage 3, a wonderful poetry recital by Stage 2 as well as a stunning artwork display from Year 2 and Stage 2 students.

Mrs O'Connor also presented our fortnightly awards for the Key Learning Area of History and the Living Well, Learning Well Award Be a Reflective Learner. Congratulations to all recipients!

A huge thank you to our treasured grandparents, special guests and families who joined us for this memorable occasion!!

Wii Gaay Learning Hub

Last week Andiah Walsh, Amalia Suckling and Hunter Lubke-Wood attended the first Wii Gaay Learning hub for 2025 in Armidale. The theme, “The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy,” guided a range of engaging activities in IT, Literacy and Numeracy, celebrating both the rich achievements of the past and the promise of the future.

A major focus of the hub was the beginning of a special film project, where students began capturing and preserving the stories of local Elders. This meaningful work will continue throughout the year as students develop their storytelling and digital media skills.

Alongside their learning, students also enjoyed team-building experiences including rock climbing, bowling and a movie night complete with pizza — a fun way to end a fantastic week of learning and connection!
