Principal's Report

Industrial Action

I am sure you are all aware that the Victorian AEU (Australian Education Union) has been in negotiations with the State Government regarding the new Victorian Government Schools Agreement (VGSA). This Agreement determines the salaries, working conditions, and professional entitlements for all staff in Victoria’s public schools.

The AEU has now endorsed an in-principle VGSA, and over the coming month all AEU members will have the opportunity to vote on whether to accept it. In light of reaching in-principle agreement, the AEU has determined to suspend all current industrial action. The Department has agreed that AEU members will not be required to complete written comments on student reports for parents in Semester 1. This semester we will provide student achievement reports as usual; however, full descriptive comments may not be included in reports for all classes. The reports will still provide important information regarding student learning attainment and course content.

Working Bee

We had perfect weather for our Year 1 and 5 Working Bee last Sunday.  We could not maintain our school grounds to the standard that we do without the support we receive from so many of our school community.

Dimi and I are extremely grateful to the following school community members and families for helping to make our entire school look extra neat and tidy or gave a donation: Dan and Romy Berhang, Jo Birleson, Buntine family, Eve Cole, Rory Doran, Nick Edwards, Lucy Feldy, Gary and Tammy Friedman, Tim Hope-Johnstone,  Marion Goss, Rachael Harman, Brad Janovic, Pip Johnson, Jaehee Lee. Mike Leigh, Deb Liebhaber, Leon Lopata, Ari and Jared Mailer-Lyons, Alejandra Nucette, Natalie Osowicki, Andrea Pagani, Rowena Pereira, Beth Poulter, Nadine Ralph, Mia Roth, Bikal Shrestha, Finn Spackman, Mariella and Natalie Traina-Mandel, Ed Scully, Bec and Shane Tregear, Hayley and Naresh Tulsi and Corey White.  We are also very grateful to all the children that worked very hard alongside their parents too! Sincere apologies if your name is not on this list but we appreciate your help all the same!

Our next Working Bee will be for our Prep and Year 4 Families on Sunday 9th August.

The date for the final working bee this year is as follows: -

Term 4 – Year 3 and Junior Campus – Sunday 18th October.

Parent Teacher Interviews

Parent Teacher Interviews are taking place tomorrow and next week.  There has been a great response with most parents booking interviews with their child’s/children’s class teachers and some with specialist teachers. The interviews provide the opportunity for parents to meet with their child's teachers to discuss progress, academic performance, and address any concerns or questions.

Walkathon Morning Tea

Thank you to all the parents for supporting and helping your child/children to raise funds for the walkathon. We are thrilled with the amount of money raised, which will certainly be put to good use to purchase outdoor tables for the Junior Campus and new basketball towers for the Senior Campus. Our highest fund raisers and Year Level winners thoroughly enjoyed their special morning tea at Zest last Friday!

Road Safety

We continue to have many complaints raised from our parent community and from some of our school neighbours in relation to parking. We ask parents and grandparents to adhere to the 2-minute parking zones, ‘No Parking’ zones and the designated spaces for people with a disability.  If you are in the ‘2-minute parking zone’ you can get out of your vehicle to quickly help your children, get in and out safely however we strongly request that you do not walk away from your vehicle. This allows for more families to have prompt and safe access to ‘drop off’ their children at school.  For the safety of our whole School Community and local neighbours we are strongly requesting that our parent and carers be respectful and do the right thing when they are delivering or collecting their children to or from school. This includes not parking over people's driveways.

Curriculum Day

A reminder that tomorrow, Wednesday 27th May is a Curriculum Day, therefore pupil free. Team Kids will operate a full day program; you can find the details on their website.

Have a lovely week,

Janine
