VET

In week 2 this term, thirteen of our year 11 Vocational Major students attended Kangan Institute to begin their VET Delivered to Secondary Students (VETDSS) course. VETDSS enables our students to get real hands-on experience within a chosen industry, obtain a nationally recognised qualification and increase their career prospects by combining their secondary school studies with a Vocational Education and Training (VET) program.

Studying an external VET, provides our students with the skills and ability to achieve competencies which will enhance their employment and further training prospects. The program delivers ‘work-ready’ knowledge and skills applicable to a variety of career paths and may shorten the duration of an apprenticeship after year 12 through credit recognition.

Some of the courses commenced by our students include pre-apprenticeships in Building and Construction and Electrotechnology (as pictured) at Kangan Institute Broadmeadows. We also had year 11s begin their Automotive pre-apprenticeships at Kangan Institute Docklands, whilst other participants started Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care. In Week 3, nine more of our Vocational Major students will begin studying Certificate III in Beauty at Kolbe Catholic College. Our students’ participation in these courses demonstrates the many benefits of the alternative learning pathway that the Vocational Major enables.
