Mrs Jeanean Pritchard, Head of Arts

VCE Units 2 and 4 Art Making and Exhibiting students recently travelled to Melbourne for an in-depth look at staging and displaying art exhibitions at the Australian Centre for Contemporary Art.  The gallery was hosting Future Remains: The 2024 Macfarlane Commissions, which showcased the commissioned works of seven artists using vastly different mediums in large scale works – from film to paper, fibre, wood, truck tarpaulins, other recycled materials and found objects, ceramics, bronze and metal casting, paint, and even blutak and carpet!

Through an engaging walkthrough discussion with an ACCA educator, students explored ways that the curator works with artists, transporting and handling works, storage, conservation, hanging and display considerations, as well as how the exhibition layout influences the experience for the viewer.  This real world learning will lead directly into SAC outcomes and exams, where they will discuss these issues for their own and other artworks.
