Ecological Approach

Today we have to realise that a true ecological approach always becomes a social approach; it must integrate questions of justice in debates on the environment, so as to hear both the cry of the earth and the cry of the poor.

Pope Francis

We have entered into the season of Spring, and with it the new life, longer days, warmer sun and rain. For the church this is the “Season of Creation” in which there is a focus on the environment and God’s ongoing creation. God is ever-present if we take the time to notice. Most of us get a glimpse into the mystery of God as we spend time in nature. I encourage you to take notice and, if opportunity arrives, to take off your shoes and socks and walk on the land. This is what our First Nations people have done for millennia to connect them with the sacred and literally keep them grounded. The spiritual practice of “Dadirri” (da-did-ee) is a First Nations way of practising what we might call “contemplation”. Interschool Social Justice Day 15 August

Six students attended the Interschool Social justice Day hosted by Penleigh & Essendon Grammar School with Mrs Zugan and I. Altogether about 80 students gathered with four other Uniting Church schools. On arrival we were warmly greeted and enjoyed some morning tea. We started by hearing from a Chaplain, Mr Moffet, on what a referendum is and how they work in Australia. The Uniting Church National President, Rev. Sharon Hollis, gave a background to the Uniting Church in Australia relationship with First Nations members (Congress) and of its decision to support them. After lunch we heard from two indigenous people (Rev. Will and Mrs Carly Pickett) who shared some of their story and of their hopes for a Voice to Parliament. We came away with new friends from other schools and a greater sense of the justice issues involved.

Mario Kart Competition - 17 August

A great night was enjoyed by over 100 people with nearly 48 of those people competing!

Special thanks to the Parents and Friends Committee for opening the snack bar in the foyer. Thanks also to Jasmine E, Nadia L and Ms Elisha Baera for overseeing the competition in the three CPA side rooms.

Congratulations go to Lara and Ryan R on making the final. Unfortunately, they met stiff competition in the final against much older competition. Congratulations to Charlie C for winning and Sebastian C who came runner-up. Charlie and Sebastian (shown below) each took home Hoyts vouchers for their efforts.
