Monologue Night

The Monologue Night is the opportunity for our Year 12 students to get some feedback on the preparations they are undertaking for this complex assessment. Parents, peers and other staff will share their observations.

In late October, they will face a panel of three VCAA assessors their for their external assessment which contributes 25% to their study score for VCE Theatre Studies. Over the past three months, students have selected, researched, planned, designed, blocked and rehearsed a monologue from a selection provided to them. At their final assessment, they have 12 minutes to set their staging up, perform their monologue and then orally justify their choices via an interpretation statement.

The night is essential as it adds the pressure of being ready for a performance and gives them the chance to critically analyse that performance and then refine it over the coming weeks. We congratulate them on the work so far and wish them well in their final preparations.

HorrorFest – Filming Day

On Friday 8 September, Year 10 Media students completed their second round of filming for this year's HorrorFest Film Festival. It was great to see our own VCE VM students helping with some of the special effects makeup and also that students were able to lock in a few teacher cameos, including Mr Forward! These films are the second task for Year 10 Media which has a focus on the horror genre and group production. It was great to see the teamwork and enthusiasm of students to get their scenes completed, especially those filming up at the barn where - despite conditions being cold and windy - their determination to bring their vision to life shone through! We look forward to seeing these films in a screening later in the year.

Cumberland Concert

On Wednesday 6 September and Thursday 7 September, the Years 3-4 and Years 5-6 respectively took audience members on an incredible trip Around the World for the 2023 Cumberland Concert. Through a series of dramatic, musical and dance items, Cumberland students visited all seven continents and even ventured into Outer Space and Funkytown! The Cumberland students worked extremely hard over the course of Term 3 to develop their acting, instrumental and dancing skills to put on this performance. Students were even able to use their creativity to assist their teachers in the choreographing of items, writing dialogue and making props. A large thank you goes to the incredible Performing Arts teachers for contributing countless hours to make their items a reality. It was an impressive showcase - a trip of a lifetime - which we shall remember forever.

Come and see this year's Middle School Play Hansel & Gretel, directed by Ms Elise Zijai. Candy, comedy and magic, this show will be sure to delight all senses. There will be pre-show entertainment where our littlest audience members will engage with gingerbread cookie decorating and meeting all sorts of strange and miraculous characters to live in the forest.
