Dear families, friends and the community of Merino Consolidated School,
Welcome back to Term Two! Schools are such busy places with something happening every day! This term has already had a staff professional development day with the Wannon area, a commemoration ceremony for ANZAC Day, practise for the Hamilton/Portland Zone Athletics Carnival in Warrnambool for four of our senior students and all children are busily preparing our Eisteddfod items with Mrs McDonald - and that is just the first two weeks of this term!
Merino Easter Market
The day was sunny and the crowds were out and about on Easter Saturday at the Merino Market. Our little stall had yummy delights, raffle tickets for sale and crafts made by our students. Thank you to everyone who brought something from our stall, helped set up the marquee, worked on the stall on the day, brought a raffle ticket or two or ten, donated items for the raffle, made delicious treats to sell and even bought one of the students’ hand-made items. Thank you to our lovely ladies at the Merino Post Office for also selling raffle tickets on our behalf. This was definitely a team effort!
Our market stall and raffle made $1,103. 😊
Industrial Action
The Australian Education Union has called on its members to take strike action on Tuesday 12th May 2026. Based upon the information provided to me, one of our teaching staff will be taking part in the strike action. Therefore:
- students in Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 are not required to attend the morning session until their teacher is back on site at 12.30pm .
If this will cause you difficulties, in particular if you are a critical services worker, please get in touch as soon as possible.
Please also note that the Junior class will be off site at an excursion at Coleraine Primary School on this day.
ANZAC Commemorative Service
Last Friday morning, students enjoyed making ANZAC Day wreaths with the Knitting Ladies, showing great creativity and care throughout the activity. That afternoon, they showed maturity and respect during our small commemorative service. Each child thoughtfully placed their wreath under a flag of their choice, listened quietly to an ANZAC song and proudly sang the National Anthem together. It was a meaningful and respectful way to honour the spirit of ANZAC Day.
Long Service Leave
Glenda will be taking Long Service Leave from Monday 11th May and returning back to school on Monday 15th of June. Jai Nolte will be filling in for some of her days. We wish Glenda a fantastic leave and look forward to hearing about her adventures.
