Rehearsals of 'The Ash Girl' are underway!
The VCE Theatre Studies class of 2024 are currently busy rehearsing for their Unit 3 outcome, a performance of Timberlake Wertenbaker's script 'The Ash Girl.'
About the play:
In a big old house, Ashgirl lives huddled deep in the protection of an ashy hearth. With her mother dead and her father away, she lives with her stepmother and two stepsisters. When the invitation to the ball arrives from the prince, Ashgirl finds the strength to go with the help of her friends, some of whom come from unexpected places. When she gets home, Ashgirl realizes that in order to regain the fleeting happiness she found in the arms of the prince, she must fight the monsters who have slithered and insinuated their way into her heart and mind. She must believe in herself for others to do so.
Our class of 15 students are responsible for the production roles of set, props, costumes, make-up, lighting and sound designs, as well as acting and directing.
In the course of their study, they learn about safe and ethical working practices in the theatre, and how to apply technologies and key elements of theatre composition. Please come along and support our students! We look forward to seeing you there!

We are thrilled to be using the High Performance Centre for Music and Dance. This brand new build includes a dance studio, music classroom and breakout instrumental music spaces. The students and staff have been enjoying this space and feel lucky to have access to these state of the art facilities.
The purpose of this event is to give students the opportunity to rehearse and perform in a large vocal group and to work with different conductors and students from other schools. Rehearsals are planned for the morning sessions and a recording for the afternoon session.

SongMakers is a trail-blazing, contemporary music initiative nurturing students’ creativity and team skills. Australia’s leading songwriters and producers collaborate with students to create and record new music, right there in the classroom (and over Zoom or Teams). Students are immersed in a real world, collaborative co-writing environment and given invaluable insight into the forces that drive the global contemporary music industry.
We’re all about creating songs and helping get more next-gen hitmakers onto the world’s playlists. But we deliver outcomes that go way beyond the music, from work-ready skills to fostering critical thinking.
Engaging, challenging and rewarding, SongMakers fast tracks young people’s understanding of opportunities in today’s music world. It helps unlock a range of creative capabilities important for success within and beyond the music industry.
This year our year 10 Music class has the opportunity to be a part of this amazing incursion on March 12 and 13. We're looking forward to hearing what they come up with.
On Monday 3rd of March, Dance Academy students from years 7 to 9 participated in a day of dance to learn from Dance industry experts.
Session 1: Lyrical/Contemporary with Georgia Tuckett
Session 2: Musical Theatre with Amy Browne
Session 3: Commercial Hip Hop with Elly Creevey
What our students said about the industry day...
Beth L (yr 7) "I have enjoyed learning new styles such as lyrical and musical theatre."
Isobel C (yr 8) "I have really liked being able to learn from different teachers. Doing the musical theatre class was different as we sang and danced. It was fun performing as a character (chimney sweep - Mary Poppins)."
Grace L (yr 9) "I feel grateful to have had the opportunity to dance with my peers and dance academy students from the other year levels. It was great to experience different styles."
