Sandringham College Library

I say it every year, but what an amazing, busy and positive start to the year.

Year 7

All Year 7 students have now completed their Library orientation session during their reading class.  Students learnt how to utilise the Sandringham College Library Website for reading materials relevant to their interests.  The first competition of the year, to teach Year 7 how to use the catalogue was launched. Students also learnt that the collection is organised by genres, to help make searching for that perfect book even easier.

As the weeks have gone by, Year 7 students have acquainted themselves with the library during lunchtime and found it is the place to be.  Not only can they find a quiet space to read, but they can play board games, create in the makerspace area or just socialise with their friends, all in the safety of the library.

Academic Support

Library staff understand the importance of academic support for our students.  We have two qualified teacher-librarians, Peter Hatigan and Jeremy de Korte, who are available to provide one-on-one support or group workshops on a variety of topics.  They can help with the research process, referencing, avoiding plagiarism and using databases.  Bookings can be made easily via our library website (Book a librarian) or by making an appointment during a visit to the library.  We are committed to providing our students with the resources they need to succeed in their academic and professional pursuits.

Jeremy, who is also a published historian has been busy researching the real-life Indigenous diggers, that the play Black Diggers is based around.  He has presented to English classes as they study that text.  This information is also on the library website.

Sandringham College Library Website

The Sandringham College Library Website is an incredible resource for students and staff.  Students are able to access the many databases and digital resources the library subscribes to via the website 24/7.  Throughout the year I will showcase the website and its features.

One such resource is the online referencing generator the library subscribes to.

The reference generator offers a junior (abridged), middle and Senior level.  It has been developed by teacher-librarians to assist students and give them an understanding of how to complete a bibliography or reference list.

The reference generator...

  • Creates citations for a comprehensive range of sources. Students can copy & paste the reference into their bibliography or reference list
  • Describes each element of the citation (Rollover)
  • Provides examples of in-text referencing for each source

This is a password protected page.  Students can contact the library for the password.

Sandringham College uses the APA style 7th edition for referencing.

Students wanting more information or help to access this invaluable tool or any of the resources available can ask any member of the library team or contact us via the website with their query.

Kids' Lit Quiz

This year the library is thrilled to offer Sandringham College students the chance to participate in the Kids' Lit quiz.  This worldwide competition is a fantastic opportunity for our talented students to showcase their reading knowledge in a fun and exciting event while representing the college.  The state heats are at the end of April, and our teams will be in training leading up to this event by playing games to extend their knowledge of literature.
