Principal's Page

Dear Parents and Friends,
From my perspective, this term has flown! It only seems like a few weeks ago that we were welcoming our students back to a new school year. We have achieved a lot this term and I am grateful to the staff who are deeply committed to nurturing and educating our students. I am proud of our students for the manner in which they have engaged in their learning and for the support they show each other both on the playground and in the classroom. These are some of the events and activities we enjoyed and participated in throughout the term:
SJB Swimming Trials
SJB Cross Country Carnival
Ash Wednesday
Project Compassion Fundraising
NAPLAN Years 3 & 5
Feast of St Joseph
Kindergarten Parent Welcome Evening
Open Days for Prospective New Families in 2027
Year 6 Overnight Camp
Rugby League Gala Day
Kindergarten Parent Reading Workshop
Holy Week Liturgies
***************
In the past few weeks, I have been inundated with hand written letters from students seeking my permission to fundraise for Project Compassion. Requests from Lemonade Stalls to Pre-loved Toy Stalls to Face Painting and everything in between. It hasn’t been possible to allow all of these ideas to come to life, however I am so proud of these students' compassion and determination to help those less fortunate than themselves. This is true social justice in action - thank you.
***************
Yesterday’s Parish Family Mass was a special and memorable celebration to begin Holy Week. The number of students in attendance was fantastic and our choir once again beautifully shared their gift of music. Thank you to our staff, students and families who were able to gather together.
***************
As we enter Holy Week, the most sacred time in our Church year, I wish all members of our school community every blessing. This is a time for reflection, prayer, and deepening our understanding of Christ’s love, shown through His passion, death, and resurrection. May the hope and joy of Easter fill your homes with peace, and I wish you all a safe, restful, and blessed school vacation period.
Students will return to school in Term 2 on Tuesday 21 April.
2026 Annual Improvement Plan
Goal: Students will be challenged to maximise their learning growth in Writing and clearly articulate their learning goals, know their next steps, and monitor their progress.
Collaborative Planning Days
Teachers are continuing to work in their grades for their second Collaborative Planning session in our cycle of inquiry. The growth in students’ writing has exceeded our high expectations. Parents would have seen evidence of this in students’ writing books that they brought home on Friday. I hope that you had the time to look through these and celebrate your child’s achievements.
School Assemblies
Our next whole school assembly will be held in Term 2 on Friday 1 May at 2pm. All are welcome!

How does my child receive a Principal's Award?
Class teachers nominate students for Blue Merit Awards which are presented at the weekly assembly. When five Blue Merit Awards have been received, students send them to the school office to be recorded and are then eligible for a Principal’s Award. When students attain their 4th Principal Award, they are awarded a Principal’s Medallion at an assembly. End of Term awards can be included as part of the 5 awards. Please see the "School Handbook" for a full list of eligible awards.
