FROM THE SCIENCE ROOM

This term the whole school focus is Physical Science: Force, Energy and Motion

The Preps have been learning about how bodies can move in different ways and what parts of our bodies we use on the playground. They investigated how toys move and which parts of a toy helps it move. The Preps experimented with different objects and talked about which shape made an object easy to roll.

Years 1/2A & B have been learning about push and pull forces. They have experimented with floating and sinking objects and investigated how the force of gravity works on flat and crumpled paper. The students created paper helicopters to demonstrate forces and found out how the helicopter spins.

Year 3/4A have also been learning about push-pull forces.

They students investigated friction by rolling cars down a ramp with different surfaces that included aluminum foil and bubble wrap. They experimented with the size of a force by hitting a tennis ball with a ruler.

4/5A and 5/6A have been learning about circuits and electricity. They have created circuits to light a bulb and investigated changes in the circuit that would make the bulb dimmer/brighter. The students learnt about how a circuit can transform and transfer energy.
