Student Learning Culture and Growth

Term 1 has continued at a rapid pace with our students engaging in a range of curricular and extra-curricular activities throughout this term. We currently have our Years 7 and 9 students completing the National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) tests. This testing period is significant for all students in Years 7 and 9, through providing relevant information about how well each students development of essential skills of reading, writing and numeracy. The NAPLAN data is also significant towards informing our teachers of the data and the opportunity to interpret a relevant data to inform our pedagogical practices and differentiation for student learning and engagement.
Our senior students have been diligent through the preparation and commitment to attend to their School Assessed Coursework (SACs) throughout this term. I commend the way our senior students have undertaken this commitment, particularly after the message provided to all Year 12 students and accelerated Year 11 students at our Year 12 Commencement evening and Senior Assembly.
Whilst students have a wide-range of subjects and opportunities, the opportunity to attend school each and every day as every learning opportunity matters. It is noted across many educational journals that daily school attendance is significant for all children and young people to succeed in education and to ensure they don't fall behind both socially and developmentally. Young people who regularly attend school and complete Year 12 or an equivalent qualification have better health outcomes and better employment opportunities. The opportunities offer within our own school community helps our young people to develop important skills, knowledge and values which set them up for further learning and participation in their community, along with a sense of belonging to our own school community.
On behalf of the College, we would like to congratulate the high number of students who have succeeded to achieve a 100% school attendance since HeadStart last December.
