NAPLAN
We are very proud of the Year Three students for approaching NAPLAN in a positive and open-minded manner.
Here are some reflections from the children:
At the start it was very intense. My heartbeat really fast and I think everyone’s heart was.
Soon enough it was about to start, I was worried.
We were logging in and my computer gradually slowed down just as we were about to start. But as we heard the instructions from Mrs Levine, I think everyone was worried. In my head I tried to think about better stuff like yummy food. Until I remembered what mum and dad told me, ‘’think of it as a normal worksheet’’. But I mean, when it started, I was fine. I’m trying to say don’t worry about Naplan.

I was a nervous wreck at first, but then I got used to it. My pressure was high and gradually turned off…
I was really worried that I was going to be really bad at Naplan, but then realised it was OK.
I felt good after the first section of the first test, I also liked Conventions Of Language.
Of course, I loved Naplan and cannot wait for the maths test.
I also loved making up stories with made-up characters.

When we first started NAPLAN, I thought I wouldn’t be able to do it. But, when I got started, I thought it was ok. I knew it didn’t go for that long, so I decided I would just go with it.
I quite enjoyed making stories, and, when we finished them or ran out of time, I felt proud of myself. I did have pressure rocking me around like I was on one of those pirate ships at a theme park, or one of those loops on a rollercoaster, but when I got back to the ground, I felt great that I gave it a go. And I absolutely LOVED turning my imagination on for the stories. I also liked the spelling and punctuation test we did.

“I thought it was going to be tricky, but when I did it, I realised it was easy and quite interesting.”

“I was a bit worried that I might get all the answers wrong but after a while it was actually fun. I like that I got to read about different topics and answer questions about it. I would tell someone that has never done NAPLAN that after a while it gets pretty fun and you don’t need to worry.”

“It was fun, and I am looking forward to the Math test on Wednesday. I was a little nervous before the first test, but my teacher helped me to stay calm and then I actually enjoyed them especially the Language of Conventions.”

“I was nervous at first but once I did it I wasn’t nervous anymore. I didn’t like the writing because I don’t like to make up stories. I enjoyed the Language of Conventions test that we did yesterday.”

Naplan was good, I felt smart. I enjoyed it a lot. I felt like I did a very good job at it. It was hard and easy at the same time. I had my own private catch-up session at year six because I missed a session. We did Numeracy, Grammar, Spelling, Writing and Reading.
At about week four to five we started doing Naplan practise and it had about twelve questions while now it is about fifty-two questions but that might not be for other people.

NAPLAN was so fun. I think the hardest part was getting on. Our teacher helped us to get on. After we did it, we got to draw in grey lead. We did writing, reading, conventions of language and we will do maths.

The media thinks that NAPLAN is a big thing, but. . . Surprise!!! It's really not. 3C is so used to tests so it really wasn't that much pressure. The highlight of the day for me was learning a new thing about Rainbow beetles. I also learnt that sleeping under the stars is good for you.
The hardest part was probably getting on. We grabbed our computers, then we sat down and got on. The teachers assisted us if we had any errors.
So far, we have done Writing, Language Conventions, Reading and we have got to do Maths.

NAPLAN was much more fun than I expected. We already do lots of tests, so NAPLAN was not very stressful. It was fun trying to spot spelling mistakes in conventions of language and reading about beetles.

At the start I was quite nervous, but at the end of the first test I felt much better.
I found the maths great and I felt good about the spelling and grammar.
I'm happy that we don't have to do Naplan again for 2 years!

Inquiry - How We Express Ourselves
An inquiry into the ways in which we discover and express ideas, feelings, nature, culture, beliefs and values; the ways in which we reflect on, extend and enjoy our creativity; our appreciation of the aesthetic.
For this communication task, the students were sitting back-to-back with a partner. They each took in turns giving instructions to their partner on how to draw a picture on their whiteboard, sight unseen.
For this drawing activity to be successful, the students needed to make sure they communicated to their partner with clear, concise instructions.
One student draws a simple picture on their whiteboard first, and then instructs their partner what to draw and where, using only verbal instructions.
The students then compared their pictures and discussed what instructions they found easy to follow, and what parts were more difficult.
They then swapped roles, and checked to see if clearer, more precise instructions were given the second time.
Science with Mrs Jones
To conclude our Science unit ‘Day and Night’, the Year Three students completed an investigation on Monday to examine how shadows move through-out the day. The students planned a fair test, carried out the investigation each hour, graphed and explained their results all in collaborative groups of three.
Here are some photos of the investigation in progress.
