Year 2 News

We have had a busy fortnight in year 2 with students completing learning tasks on place value as well as their writing learning task. The teachers are extremely proud of the students’ efforts in completing both tasks to the best of their abilities.

Students have been enjoying collaborating with year 4 students as our unit of inquiry on How We Express Ourselves ends. Students had the opportunity to work with year 4 students to create a PowerPoint presentation on how we manage our emotions that they are looking forward to sharing with students from year 1 later this week.

We have enjoyed celebrating our year 2 students on Friday afternoons during our year 2 assembly where certificates are awarded for wellbeing, our IB learner profiles as well as reading certificates for students who are consistently reading at home. This is a great way to end the week and students enjoyed celebrating with their peers.

Students commenced literacy groups this week. Literacy groups run every Wednesday and provide the students with 6 engaging rotations to complete in a 2-hour block.

This week students enjoyed the following rotations:

  • reading with their teacher
  • completing a spelling grid using their Smart spelling words
  • work on writing using the magic keys as a picture prompt
  • grammar conventions focusing on full stops and capital letters
  • read to self and
  • listen to reading.

During handwriting this week, the students enjoyed working in pairs to try and make the letter ‘d’ with their bodies. They also had fun with the interactive games revising capital letters and full stops.

Please enjoy our photos and videos of the students participating in many of these activities.
