Pads

The Preps were very excited to use the iPads during our ICT session this week. The Prep teachers were fortunate to have some older students assist with logging the children on to the various programs and help any children requiring extra support.

Though out the year the Preps will be learning to become more confident when using their headphones, navigating various programs and logging in independently.  This week the Preps used our brand-new reading program called 'Nessy'.  They really enjoyed this fun, game-based program.

Chalk SMART Spelling

The Preps had a lot of fun writing the first four SMART Spelling words in chalk on the asphalt during the week. They all tried really hard to form their letters correctly, writing 'cat', 'ant', 'tin' and 'tap'.

The Preps were asked to sound the words out as they wrote, which is a great way for them to practice their letters, sounds and blending. Chalk is a fun way to practise the SMART Spelling words, Golden Words and even the alphabet at home.

Some other ideas to make practising these important words at home fun are to paint with water on concrete or use playdough, magnet letters, stamps or Lego to make the words.

Counting The Days At School

Can you believe that the Preps have now been at school for 29 days!

Each morning the Prep classes have been adding a stamp to our chart and recording the number of days we have been at school.  The children are having a great time taking turns to add a stamp to our chart, using the pointer stick and counting with the class bead frame.

Counting the days at school is a daily routine which provides wonderful opportunities to develop and strengthen basic numeracy skills in a fun and purposeful way.

It is the perfect time to practice counting collections, ordering numbers, numeral formation, using tens frames, more and less, number patterns and place value.

Once the Preps have been at school for 100 days, we will have a big party and special day at school to celebrate!
