The Sustainability Team
On Tuesday the 12th of March, the sustainability team had their first excursion as part of the I sea I care marine ambassador program. The I sea I care program is an institute that teaches young Marine Ambassadors to care and nurture our oceans.
We got up early to arrive at 8:50am, it was a morning full of smiling faces and nerves. When we got there the water was calm but it was windy, then we got briefed about the I sea I care program and what it means to be in it. We got given snorkels, flippers, and wetsuits, then we got on the boat, awaiting for the great day ahead of us!
The Beaumaris North students got to sit on the upstairs seating area, so we had a really good view. After a while of excited are we there yet’s, we arrived at our first stop, Pope’s eye, a man-made reef with a rainbow of eye-catching fish and lazy, but adorable seals. It was freezing cold when we first got in but we warmed up pretty quickly, we even got really close to two of the seals.
Then we got out and warmed up with complementary hot chocolates. The next stop was where the weedy sea dragons they were quite hard to spot in the seaweed, but most of us got to see at least one. Overall, we had an amazing day, and we can’t wait for more excursions.
