Camping Program

Our Camping Program continues to provide invaluable learning experiences beyond the classroom. We warmly welcome back our Year 4 students from their fantastic time at The Great Aussie Bush Camp in Kyneton, where they embraced new challenges, built friendships and created lasting memories. 

Next week, our Year 5 and 6 students head off to Phillip Island Adventure Camp, and we wish them an exciting and rewarding experience. Our camping program plays an important role in developing independence, encouraging safe risk-taking, and building resilience; skills that help our students grow in confidence and prepare them for future challenges.

Why "Easy" Books Are Best for Home Reading

You may notice that your child brings home books that seem easy for them to read. This is intentional and is an important part of our home reading program.

When children read familiar and manageable texts, they build fluency by practising skills they have already learned. Re-reading books helps strengthen accuracy, expression, and reading confidence. Because they are not using all their energy to work out difficult words, they can focus on understanding the story, talking about characters and ideas, and enjoying the experience of reading.

At school, teachers introduce new reading strategies and support students as they work through more challenging texts. Home reading has a different purpose; it provides an opportunity to practise, revise, and consolidate these skills in a positive, successful way.

Regular reading of "just right" or easier books helps children develop confidence, independence, and a lifelong love of reading. Thank you for supporting your child's reading journey at home.

Outstanding NAPLAN Results

We are pleased to celebrate Banyule Primary School's outstanding NAPLAN results for 2026, reflecting the hard work, dedication, and commitment of our students and staff.

Our Year 5 students achieved exceptional results, performing above both Similar Schools and Network Schools in every assessment area—Reading, Writing, Spelling, Grammar and Punctuation, and Numeracy.

Year 5 Percentage of Students in Strong or Exceeding

Our Year 3 students also achieved excellent results, performing above Similar Schools and Network Schools in Reading, Numeracy, and Grammar and Punctuation. They performed on par with Similar Schools in Spelling and were just 2% below Similar Schools in Writing—a fantastic achievement that demonstrates strong learning growth and a solid foundation for future success.

Year 3 Percentage of Students in Strong or Exceeding

Similar Schools are schools with comparable student populations based on the Student Family Occupation (SFO) Index, while Network Schools are schools within the Banyule local government area.

Whilst NAPLAN results are only one measure of student achievement, they provide valuable insights into the effectiveness of our teaching programs and practices in meeting the needs of our students. These outstanding results are a testament to the expertise, passion and unwavering commitment of our teachers and support staff, who work tirelessly to provide high-quality learning experiences for every student.

We are incredibly proud of our students for their effort, resilience and enthusiasm for learning, and we thank our families for their continued support to foster a learning community where every child has the opportunity to thrive.
