In Term Four, students in Year Prep, One and Two have continued to have weekly sessions focussed on Social Emotional Learning as a part of their specialist program. The program has drawn on the Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships resources and the Personal and Social Capabilities from the Victorian Curriculum.

Prep: Gender Norms and Stereotypes and Positive Gender Relations

During Term Four students will dive into exploring what it means to show respect in friendships and relationships. They will look at what they like and don’t like — their interests and passions — and that these are not tied to gender. Everyone can be strong and gentle. In the playground and the classroom, they will practice fair and friendly play by including everyone, sharing turns, and speaking kindly. Through picture story books, fun role plays, games, and writing tasks, they will have opportunities to apply their understanding of inclusive, respectful relationships.

Year One: Gender Norms and Stereotypes and Positive Gender Relations

In Term Four, the focus in Grade One will focus on who we are and celebrating what makes each of us unique. Students will discuss their likes, dislikes, and strengths and how these are not defined by gender- labels are for jars, not people! Through stories, role play, games, and creative activities, they will demonstrate respect for others, practice fair play, and build positive, inclusive friendships.

Year Two: Gender Norms and Stereotypes and Positive Gender Relations

This term, Grade Two students will explore the idea of diversity in our community. This will include challenging stereotypes and appreciating and embracing differences. Through picture-storybooks, role-plays, games and written activities, students will practice respectful and gender-friendly behaviours, and deepen their understanding of equity and respect.
