🏆 Teachers Crowned 2026 Surfside World Cup Champions!

The stage was set, the crowd was buzzing and the atmosphere was electric as the annual Staff vs Year 6 Soccer Match delivered another unforgettable spectacle!

In front of a vocal crowd of students, the teachers claimed the 2026 Surfside World Cup title with a commanding 4-1 victory over a determined Year 6 team. While the scoreboard favoured the staff, the Year 6 students never stopped fighting and showed fantastic sportsmanship, skill and determination throughout the match.

Leading the charge for the champions was Mr Florence, dazzling the crowd with his silky footwork and trademark flair. Mr Santilli was unstoppable as he powered forward with relentless attacking runs, while Ms Jones and Mrs Wright formed an impenetrable defensive wall, frustrating the Year 6 forwards time and time again.

The students certainly had their moments, with Jamie, Leo and Callum producing outstanding performances across the field. Between the posts, Lenny was rock solid in goal, pulling off a string of brilliant saves that kept the students in the contest.

As entertaining as the football was, the loudest moment came after the final whistle. With the teachers officially crowned 2026 Surfside World Cup Champions, hundreds of excited students rushed onto the field, cheering, celebrating and completely swamping the victorious staff in a memorable finish to an incredible event!

The teachers may have lifted the trophy this year, but one thing was clear—the crowd was firmly behind them from start to finish, with chants and cheers echoing around the school throughout the match.

A huge congratulations to everyone involved for making this one of the highlights of the school year. We can't wait to see if the Year 6 students can reclaim the Surfside World Cup in 4 years time!

Safe Travel to School

It is always important that we discuss with our children how to travel to and from school safely as well as travelling safely in our community outside of school hours. This includes safe travel, road rules, being aware of the environment around them as well as interactions with community members that they don't know. Please read below for some conversation prompts for your children:

Riding/Walking and Scooting to School (Active Travel to school)

At Surfside we promote active travel to school but it is important to discuss with your children about safe active travel to school:

  • Riding/scooting & walking to and from school – When children are travelling to and from school in order to support a safe community it is always important to please discuss the route that your child travels to school, encourage riding in pairs or small groups and use the main supervised crossings when crossing roads. If something feels uncomfortable encourage your children to move on quickly and report it to a trusted adult.

We continually work with our students regarding child safety and we know that our families will support these conversations at home. Please always check our safe travel to school page.

End of Semester 1 Reports

Semester 1 reports will go live this afternoon so please take the opportunity to sit down with your child and celebrate their learning throughout the first semester. We will open bookings in week 1 of term 3 for our parent/carer/teacher interviews which take place in week 2. Please refer below for further information regarding report changes for 2026.

Surfside Masterchef 2026

After 4 years of learning, creating and growing, our Year 6 students reached the exciting culmination of their Kitchen and Garden journey with their very own Surfside MasterChef Challenge.

Tasked with creating a dish that celebrated native Australian flavours, students showcased their creativity and culinary skills using Indigenous ingredients such as pepperberry, lemon myrtle and saltbush. As the pressure mounted and the judges tasted each creation, it became clear that our young chefs had developed an impressive range of cooking, teamwork and problem-solving skills throughout the program.

The standard of dishes presented were outstanding, leaving the judges thoroughly impressed by the quality, presentation and innovation on display. More importantly, the challenge highlighted our school values of Teamwork and Achievement, with students supporting one another, embracing feedback and taking pride in their accomplishments.

A huge thank you to Clancey, Georgie (Fleur), our classroom teachers, education support staff and the many parent/carer helpers and volunteers for their passion, expertise and dedication in delivering such an engaging and innovative program. We would also like to acknowledge our wonderful Surfside community. This program would not be possible without the support of our fundraising efforts and the generosity of our parent and carer volunteers. Your contribution helps create rich and memorable learning experiences for our students, and for that we are incredibly grateful.

Meanwhile, the next generation of chefs are eagerly waiting in the wings! Our Year 3 students begin their Kitchen and Garden journey next term and have already enjoyed a visit to the kitchen this week, learning some of the foundational skills that will prepare them for the exciting culinary adventures ahead.

Ready, set, cook! The future of Surfside MasterChef is looking bright.

Book Week is Coming...2026 Update - Symphony of Stories

Book week is only around the corner (week 7 of term 3 Monday 24th August-Friday 28th August) and the theme for Book Week is 'Symphony of Stories'. Due to rehearsals for Victorian State Schools Spectacular during the end of the week we have moved our parade to a new date:

'Book Week parade - Wednesday 26th August from 9.00am!'

The term 2 break provides an opportunity to get that outfit ready.

Student Reports Semester 1

Following Department of Education recommendations, Semester 1 reports will be more streamlined and easier to understand. An example of the report format is below.

To stay informed about your child's learning in each curriculum area, please continue to read the fortnightly learning statements that are emailed to families and published in the school newsletter - refer below.

Due to ongoing industrial action, written personal comments will not be included in reports this semester. Instead, families are encouraged to attend a Parent-Teacher Interview to discuss their child's progress and learning in more detail. Interviews will take place in Week 2 of Term 3 with bookings opening in Week 1. These meetings provide an opportunity to celebrate achievements, discuss progress, and set goals for the semester ahead.

Student Attendance

Regular attendance at school is very important for your child's learning and social development. Very good attendance for a child is 95% and above.

It is important that children are at school as much as possible to ensure the BEST opportunity for learning growth. We need to utilise every available minute to ensure student growth academically, socially and emotionally, in and out of the classroom.

If early collection for a shopping trip or to beat the traffic happens on a regular basis this can take away from valuable learning time throughout their schooling life. Please take the time to read the graphic below and to understand the long term affect this can have on student development. We understand that students are impacted by illness, injury or other ailments. If your child is going to be absent you are required by legislation to notify the school by:

  • Logging onto Compass  and
  • Enter the absence for full days only
  • If your child/children arrive late or are being collected early, the office staff will enter this onto Compass for you.
