Upcoming Industrial Action – Advance Notice
Following the full-day staff strike at the end of Term 1, the Australian Education Union has advised that its campaign of industrial action will continue this term.
This action is being taken by our teachers and Education Support staff as part of a broader effort to secure fair wages, improved working conditions, and fair funding for government schools across Victoria.
The action that will have the greatest impact on families is an upcoming half-day stop work scheduled for Wednesday 6th May.
Further details will be shared as they become available. We understand that this may create challenges for families and appreciate your support and understanding as our staff advocate for the conditions and funding needed to best support our students.
Teacher News
We are delighted to share the wonderful news that Seda Duman is expecting a baby!
Seda will be with us for the remainder of the term before heading on maternity leave. We look forward to celebrating with her over the coming months.
On other news we have a staff member leaving Keelonith, Kate Marosy. Kate has a new position at Mickleham Secondary College. Kate has been a valued member of the Keelonith community and will be greatly missed. During her time with us, she has provided outstanding support to both teachers and students, always going above and beyond
While we are sad to see Kate leave, we are incredibly proud of her and excited for this next step in her career.
At the end of Term 1, we communicated that Natalie Goz would be working in the classroom three days per week, with Brooke Slopak supporting the class for the remaining two days.
Since returning for Term 2, an opportunity has arisen for Mrs Goz to move into a full-time classroom role, commencing Week 2. We are really pleased to be able to offer this continuity for students and feel very fortunate that Mrs Goz has committed to working with us on a full-time basis. This means that Mrs Goz will be the Prep A teacher from Monday to Friday.
ANZAC Day
Keelonith Primary School will be participating in the ANZAC Day service at Craigieburn ANZAC Park on Saturday 25 April. Our School Captains will represent the school by laying a wreath during the 10:00am service.
Some of our SRC students have also been invited to attend, and Matt and Brooke will be present on the day.
This is an important opportunity for our students to honour the sacrifices of our service men and women and to build understanding and respect for this significant occasion.
Student Celebration
At Keelonith, we would like to congratulate Arda T on his recent outstanding sporting achievements.
Arda’s journey in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu continues to reflect his commitment to learning and steady improvement. Over the past year, he has had the opportunity to compete at several major events, including the Australian National Championship, where he earned gold and the title of national champion. He also competed at the Abu Dhabi World Jiu-Jitsu Championship, where he secured gold in his division and earnt the title of a World Champion . Most recently, in March, he took part in the ADCC Jiu-Jitsu competition in Thailand, where he was able to come away with a gold medal.
This is such a great achievement and we are looking forward to hearing about Arda's continued success.
Collecting Children During the Day
If you need to collect your child early, please notify the office in advance so we can have them ready for you. Schools are busy places, and it can take time to locate students, particularly if they are in specialist classes or other learning areas.
To minimise disruptions, please avoid collections during:
• Play 1: 10:58 - 11:28
• Play 2: 1:14 - 1:44
During these times, children may not hear PA announcements, and buildings are locked for safety, making it difficult to collect belongings.
2027 Prep Tour
On Thursday, we held our first Prep Tour, and it was wonderful to welcome new families into our school. It was a great opportunity to showcase our learning spaces, share our approach to teaching and learning, and give families a feel for the positive and supportive environment we have here at Keelonith.
If you know of any families in our zone who are interested in a tour, please feel free to share the QR code below so they can book into one of our tours this term.
School Improvement updates
Over the term 1 holidays, we have installed new security cameras around the school to further enhance the safety and security of our students, staff, and facilities.
You may have also noticed that the tables and chairs around the canteen have been removed. This is because new concrete footings have been installed in the bitumen to ensure they are more secure. Our maintenance team will be returning shortly to reattach the tables and chairs.
Assembly
Our first assembly of the term will be on Monday 27th May at 9.05am. Looking forward to seeing you all there.
