Principal's Report

Industrial Arts Teacher

I would like to welcome Mr Jason Walker to the staff at Uralla Central School.  Mr Walker will commence as our industrial arts teacher from the beginning of next year.  He will be overseeing our woodwork and metalwork classes in the secondary area as well as some other timetabled subjects.  Mr Walker brings with him much experience and skills and we are looking forward to working with him from Term 1next year.

Be Safe When Leaving at Home Time

We are increasingly concerned about the safety of students when leaving school each afternoon near the hall and bus area.  We are asking students not to leave the school from behind the canteen and through the bus area. Please leave from the front or the side areas of the school, or if you need to leave from the back area, please walk past the bus stop and then cross the road. It would be helpful if parents and carers could be situated on the same side of the school so younger students do not need to cross the road.  Thanks for your help in keeping us all safe!

Changes to Student Email Account Usage

All students received an email last week advising them of some changes to using their school email account for online platforms. Please see official information from the NSW Department of Education below:

 Dear Students,

The NSW Department of Education is making an important change to help keep our students safe online, reduce the risk of cyber threats and make sure your student email accounts are used for their intended educational purposes only.

What’s happening?

Starting Day 1 Term 4, you won’t be able to use your student email address to sign up for, or recover access to any social media, gaming, instant messaging or similar accounts.

What you need to do:

If you have signed up for a social media, gaming, instant messaging or similar account using your student email address, please change to a personal email address on each platform by Sunday 13 October to make sure you don't lose access to the account.

Here’s how:

  1. Log in to each account.
  2. Go to the account settings and update your email address to a personal one. Add a mobile number too, if you haven’t already.

Why this is happening?

The department is making this change to ensure all student accounts are being used for their educational purposes, and to help protect you from risks online. Using your personal email address for these platforms instead of your student email address reduces the chances of someone gaining access to information in your school account.

Child Safety Handbook

Please see a link below to the updated Child Safety Handbook.  The “NSW Police Legacy Child Safety Handbook” is a comprehensive and free resource to assist parents, carers as well as teachers on a range of topics essential to child safety.

This new digital edition (link below) includes important content updates from: NSW Rural Fire Service (NEW fire danger ratings), NSW Health (Water & Pool Safety), Transport NSW (School Bus Safety).

Farewell Year 12 - Class of 2024

Today, we farewelled our Year 12 students as they embark on their journey into after school life.  Although I have only had the pleasure of working with these young people for only a few months, I have been impressed with how respectful and appreciative they are of the opportunities they have been provided during their time at Uralla Central School. With such a responsible attitude, they will achieve great things!  I wish them every success in their future endeavours...  Please keep in touch with us, head out there and make a difference!

Thank you to the large number of parents and family members who joined us for the occasion. I also thank our students and staff for making today such a memorable event for our leaving students.

School Leaders for 2025

At today's Year 12 Farewell, we inducted our new School Captains and Vice Captains for 2025.

I congratulate the following students on being elected into the student leadership team:

School Captains:  Imogen Wright and Connor Tobler

School Vice Captains:  Mia White and Rohan Bassett

We will elect Year 6 School Leaders later in Term 4 to join the senior team.

1974 School Reunion

For those members of our community who graduated in 1974, a school reunion will be held over the October long weekend. This year marks 50 years since this group of students graduated from Uralla Intermediate High School, the name of our school at the time. I will be providing a tour of the school on the Saturday at 1.00pm. A dinner has been organised for the Saturday evening at the Uralla Golf Club. If you have any questions, please contact Gary Shanahan or call me at the school and I can provide you further information.

Academy Semester Two Reports

Students in Academy I and Academy II will receive their semester two reports this week. As always, please contact us at the school to arrange a time to meet with your child's teacher, if you have any questions about their reports.

Footy Colours Day - Tomorrow

Term 4 Commencement Dates

All students and staff return to school on Monday 14 October 2024. There is no school development day at the start of next term.

Happy Holidays

As we end another term at Uralla Central School, I would like to thank you all for your support for our students and our school. We are a great school community, which I am so lucky to be a part of. I wish all students, staff and families a safe and enjoyable spring break.  Please drive carefully if you are on the roads.

See you all next term!
