2025 Reflection & Future Direction

End of Year Reflection & Future Direction
As we approach the end of 2025, I would like to take an opportunity to reflect upon the year and look forward to the next.
Future Direction – 2026
As a school, we are proud of everything we have achieved this year, and also recognise opportunities for improvement.
I feel excited and motivated about the work that lies ahead of us. As a school, we continue to analyse a range of data to build on our successes, and use these insights as a springboard for the year to come.
Next year, we will be introducing some changes in the areas of communication, student achievements, and wellbeing:
- Direct communication via Compass – Parents will be able to contact teachers directly through Compass. Guidance will be provided at the start of the year.
- Celebrating student success – Compass will also be used to share and celebrate positive achievements by our students. More details will follow early next year.
- Termly class newsletters – Families will receive a newsletter at the beginning of each term outlining what students will be learning. These will replace the Home Learning Statements.
- Mini assemblies – I will meet with year levels in smaller assemblies to support our ongoing wellbeing initiatives.
- A refreshed school website – Our new platform will better align with current practice, with easily accessible information.
- More school tours – Tours for prospective families will be conducted in smaller groups and offered more regularly, creating a welcoming and personal experience.
We are committed to continually improving both learning and wellbeing outcomes, ensuring that our school makes the best use of its resources.
Next year, our priorities are:
- Literacy – Strengthening Writing through explicit teaching and effective application techniques.
- Numeracy – Differentiating learning to challenge and support every student.
- Wellbeing – Establishing clear routines and procedures to support:
- Smooth transitions within the school.
- Entering and exiting classrooms.
- Independent learning.
- Positive ways to gain a teacher’s attention.
To begin 2026, we have organised two curriculum days on 27 and 28 January. These sessions, led by both school and department staff, will focus on the wellbeing work outlined above. I have high expectations for the year ahead!
Reflection on 2025
Every school year is unique, bringing its own circumstances, events, and opportunities. This year has been no exception. We are proud to share some of our achievements.
Learning
- Daily 20‑minute phonics lessons from Foundation to Year 2, using Little Learners Love Literacy.
- Implementation of the Literacy Block, focusing on the 'Big 6': oral language, phonological awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension.
- Strengthening staff expertise in the explicit teaching of Writing through our Professional Learning Communities (PLCs).
- Implementation of an effective Maths scope and sequence, which is taught explicitly, alongside non‑routine tasks.
- NAPLAN success – Of the 10 assessed areas across Years 3 and 5 (Reading, Writing, Spelling, Numeracy, Grammar & Punctuation) we improved in seven compared to 2024 data. This includes our strongest recent achievements in Year 3 Writing and Year 5 Spelling. (See more detail in the fourth newsletter of this term.)
Wellbeing
- Effective implementation of School Wide Positive Behaviours Support (SWPBS).
- Increased use of wellbeing and behaviour data to guide future professional learning.
- Collaboration with an inclusion outreach coach in Year 6 and specialist classes to support effective classroom routines.
- Full transition to the Disability Inclusion Reform.
Community
- Accreditation as a three‑star sustainability school.
- Annual community events – ART FOR ALL, Trivia Night, picnics, and concerts – brought families together to celebrate creativity and connection.
- Progress on the redevelopment of the school yard, with the tender process expected to begin soon.
These achievements reflect the dedication of our staff, students, and families. I am grateful for the strong partnerships that make our school such a vibrant place to be.
