Year One and Two Classroom News
This term has been an exciting and rewarding one for our Year One and Year Two students! We’ve been working hard across all subject areas, achieving goals, and sharing lots of laughs along the way. Here’s a snapshot of what we’ve been up to:
English
We are nearly finished our InitiaLit program for the year, and what a difference it has made! The children have shown incredible growth in their understanding of sounds and letters, which has greatly improved their writing and spelling skills.
One of the highlights of the term has been our creative writing sessions. Last week, the boys wrote the beginnings of stories for the girls, and the girls did the same for the boys. The results were hilariously funny introductions that sparked endless creativity and lots of giggles! It’s wonderful to see how confident our students have become in expressing themselves through their writing.
Mathematics
In Maths, we’ve been learning all about data, including how to collect information, organise it, and represent it using graphs. The students have enjoyed coming up with survey questions and working together to collect responses from their classmates. Seeing their findings come to life in colourful bar and pictographs has been a lot of fun. Everyone has shown great teamwork and enthusiasm, and we are so proud of their efforts.
Religion
As Christmas approaches, our class has been preparing by learning about the season of Advent and revisiting the Christmas story. We’ve had thoughtful discussions about the true meaning of Christmas, and the students have been engaging in activities that reflect the themes of kindness, hope, and joy. The anticipation of this special time of year is building in our classroom!
Personal Development, Health, and Physical Education (PDHPE)
In PE, we’ve been honing our basketball and netball skills. From dribbling and passing to shooting hoops, the students have been giving it their all. It’s been amazing to see their improvement over the term! Who knows—there might be some future NBL or national netball stars in our class!
We’ve also been focusing on teamwork and good sportsmanship, cheering each other on and celebrating everyone’s progress. It’s been fantastic to see the class working together and encouraging one another.
Sport
In addition to our PE lessons, we’ve enjoyed some fun fitness challenges and outdoor games. These activities have helped us stay active and build strong friendships. Whether it’s a relay race or a friendly basketball match, the students always bring energy and enthusiasm to every session.
Wrapping Up the Term
It’s been an incredible year filled with growth, laughter, and learning. We are so proud of the goals our students have achieved, both individually and as a group. The classroom is buzzing with excitement as we approach the end of the year, and we can’t wait to see what the final weeks bring.
Thank you for your continued support of our wonderful Year One and Year Two students. Their hard work, creativity, and teamwork make our classroom a truly special place to be!
