Deputy Principal

Mr John Richards - Deputy Principal Community

The term has commenced with plenty of activity and many events taking place at St Patrick’s College. BAS sport has commenced this week, the College production Newsies is in full swing, Rugby commences on Saturday morning, our musicians have been busy with the College ANZAC Assembly and the ANZAC Day march.

There is certainly plenty for our boys to be involved in here at St Patrick’s. I encourage all of our students to participate in our co-curricular offerings. Sport, music, performing arts, public speaking and social justice activities are great ways for our boys to make friendships and connections that will be a great advantage to them both here at school and into later life.

At St Patrick’s we believe that it is important to honour the service of those who have served in Australia’s defence in time of war. In particular, we take time to honour Old Collegians for their efforts.

At last Thursday’s Anzac Day Assembly, we took the opportunity to honour the service of Louis Scott Ehrenberg who was a student here at St Patrick’s in 1907. Louis was born in Moreland, Victoria on 11 August, 1895; his Mum and Dad were Samuel and Mary Cecilia.

Louis was a boarder at St Patrick’s, along with his brother Samuel Morris Ehrenberg (SPC 1907).

At the outbreak of the Great War in 1914 Louis’ brother Samuel joined the AIF serving in the 5th Australian Infantry Battalion and was tragically killed at Gallipoli – just a teenager.

Hearing of his brother’s death at Gallipoli, Louis joined the British Imperial Forces on 19 May 1915. Louis was in England at the time as he was the proprietor and projectionist of the Scala Cinema in Southampton.

Edmund Rice Day

This coming Monday, May 5, we shall be celebrating Edmund Rice Day. The day will be an enjoyable day commencing with Mass in the O’Malley Sports Centre after the morning homeroom session, followed by the annual walk-a-thon. The walk-a thon is a tremendously enjoyable event as it provides our students and staff an opportunity to interact in a less formal environment whilst doing some good works.

A reminder to all that each student is encouraged to raise at least $40 as part of the Edmund Rice Day activities. All monies raised go towards supporting charitable organisations both locally and overseas.

The day will culminate in the annual St Pat’s Got Talent competition in the O’Malley Sports Centre. In previous years this has been an entertaining and enjoyable event, and I am certain that this year will be no different.

A reminder to all that attendance on the day is compulsory, it is expected that every student attends the day. Students are permitted to wear casual dress on Edmund Rice Day.
