VCE Theatre Studies Class Play - Black Comedy

Our Theatre Studies students entertained audiences with their presentation of 'Black Comedy'.
Our Theatre Studies students entertained audiences with their presentation of 'Black Comedy'.

This week, Mrs Bashford-Leger’s VCE Theatre Studies class presented their hilarious farce ‘Black Comedy’ to a wonderfully responsive audience in the Performing Arts Centre.

The premise of the one act play is that light and dark are transposed, so that when the stage is lit the cast are in darkness, and when the stage is dark, they are able to see.

Watching the actors successfully convey that their characters are fumbling around in the darkness and the chaos that ensued was the light and laughter we all needed this week!

Students took on responsibility for all areas of the play including direction, acting, and all design elements from costume to lighting. Congratulations to all students and staff involved!

Over the Term 2 holidays the Newsies set was successfully constructed and is now a big part of rehearsals as the backstage crew support the actors in successfully conveying the many settings of the musical. With only a few short weeks until opening night the excitement is really starting to build, and we can’t wait to share this wonderful show with you all. Make sure you snap up your tickets before they sell out!

We wish Ms Casey Mr. Stickland and their respective teams’ luck as they prepare for next week’s ACC Open Public Speaking & Debating Competition at St Joseph’s Ferntree Gully. The debaters will compete in multiple debates across the day and hopefully find themselves in the finals at the end of the day.  The Public Speakers must present two speeches and will be judged as a team of four. Good luck to all competitors and we look forward to hearing how you go!
