It has been a positive start to the school term at Kangaroo Flat Primary School. The sun has been shining and there has been a lot of learning taking place.

Thank you to all the families who joined our staff for the ANZAC day parade and service in Kangaroo Flat on Saturday. It was fantastic that our school was so well represented.

Staffing Changes

This term Faye is on leave so there have been some staffing changes. Melissa Cusack is taking on the Acting Principal role in a job-share role with me. Kim Anketell is taking on the Acting Assistant Principal role. The table below may help you to know who is in each role on different days. We are all happy to work with you, so feel free to contact any of us to support you and your family.

Cross Country

We are looking forward to the cross-country event on Friday morning and invite families and friends to attend. We will have a designated area for you to ensure that we are following child safety protocols, so please stay within this area if you join us. The weather is predicted to be sunny and warm so make sure you pack a hat for your child. A few students have informed staff that they wish to attend but do not have permission on Sentral. Please ensure permission has been confirmed or your child will not be able to attend event at Spring Gully Soccer Field.

The KFPS canteen will be open on Friday, please ensure orders are in at canteen before students depart for cross country. Their orders will be ready when students arrive back at school.

Assembly this week

Due to the Cross Country taking place on Friday, our assembly has been moved to the afternoon and will commence at 2.20 pm. Parents and carers are invited to join us. Students will be dismissed from the gym after assembly.

Dr Nathaniel Swain

As a school, we are continuing to work closely with Dr Nathaniel Swain who is a researcher, teacher, instructional coach and writer who specialises in the Science of Learning. He is supporting us to refine our teaching approach so we can deliver the best outcomes for all students. Nathaniel visited us last week and during his visit, he co-taught alongside teachers across all year levels, while other staff observed, followed by feedback in debrief sessions. We are already seeing positive impacts from this work, with students having more opportunities to engage and respond in every lesson.

Arrival at School

A reminder that children should not be within the school grounds before 8.30 am. We don’t have any teachers on yard duty before this time to supervise. If you require care before this time, please look into the services offered by Camp Australia. https://campaustralia.com.au/

AEU Half Day Stop Work

To assist parents and carers with planning, we would like to inform you that a half-day stop work action will take place on Wednesday 13th May.

At this stage, we are unable to confirm which classes will run for the full day. Staff are not required to notify the school of their participation until late Monday 11th May, so further details will be communicated after this time. Please note that any classes running on the day will not commence before 12.30 pm.

This action is part of the industrial action by AEU teachers and education staff, who are advocating for improved pay, reduced workloads and increased funding for public schools. They are seeking to reach a new agreement with the government that will enhance conditions for both staff and students.

Mother’s Day Celebrations

To celebrate Mother’s Day, we invite all mums and special people to join us for a pancake breakfast before school on Friday next week. Pancakes will be served from the canteen window from 8.20 am.

Students can bring up to $10 to school to purchase one present from the Mother’s Day stall. If there are gifts left after all students have been to the stall, students will be able to return with any money left over.

Mother’s Day Stall Volunteers

We are seeking volunteers to help run our Mother’s Day stall on Friday 8th May between 9 am and midday. If you have a current Working With Children Check and can help, please get in touch with our administration team to put your name on the list.

Grandparents Day

We will soon be sending invitations home to invite grandparents along to school with their grandchildren in the morning on Wednesday 20th May. We are looking forward to opening our school up to these special people!
