Welcome back to term 2

Now that we are well into Term 2, it has been wonderful to see the continued energy and engagement across our school community.

On Friday last week, Naranga School was pleased to welcome a visit from our Regional Director, Ian Burrage, along with several senior colleagues from the Department. They spent time touring our recently completed yard redevelopment, pathways, and specialist building. All visitors were very impressed with the learning spaces and the junior play area, which was being actively used at the time of their visit. As we become more familiar with these spaces, it is refreshing and affirming to receive such positive feedback from external visitors.

I continue to enjoy the opportunity to speak with external students who visit our school each week as part of our VET program. Offering learning opportunities beyond our school community not only benefits visiting students, but also supports our Naranga students to broaden their social interactions and connections.

With Individual Education Plans now sent home for all students, teachers have commenced assessments as they prepare for mid‑year reports. It is always a pleasure to see students engage in conversations about their learning and celebrate their achievements.

Our ANZAC Day commemoration was held on Thursday, and it was particularly pleasing to see just how far student voice has progressed. For the first time in many years, the event was entirely organised and presented by students, with no direct staff involvement. This reflects the strength of our student leadership and school processes.

Recently, we farewelled two staff members—one who has followed her career aspirations and another who has commenced maternity leave, with a further staff member preparing to do so in the coming weeks. These valued members of the Naranga team will be greatly missed, and we wish them all the very best.

Looking ahead, the Smile Squad dental van will visit our school next term. Further information will be shared soon, as this program provides families with a convenient opportunity to access dental care in a familiar environment.

This week, a group of junior students are enjoying a local camp experience. Reports indicate they are having a fantastic time, with plenty of activities keeping them busy—and appropriately tired by the end of the day! We look forward to welcoming them back to school shortly.

We also completed our selection process for Junior School Captains, interviewing eight Year 6 students. Following feedback to all candidates, one male and one female student—representing each of the two classes—were appointed. These students were announced at Wednesday’s assembly, with many proud family members in attendance to celebrate the moment.

Finally, Student Representative Council meetings have commenced this week, with junior SRC meeting on Wednesday lunchtimes and senior/pathways students meeting on Thursdays. We are looking forward to seeing student ideas and leadership continue to develop.

A timely reminder that the Department of Education requires students who bring mobile phones to school to hand them to their classroom teacher, where they will be securely stored for the day.

Mother’s Day Stall – Wednesday 6 May

On Wednesday 6 May, our Naranga Business Innovations students will proudly host the annual Mother’s Day Stall. This much‑loved event gives children the opportunity to choose a thoughtful gift for the special women in their lives—while learning the joy of giving.

Students will be able to browse a variety of gifts, and the excitement on their faces as they make their selections is always a highlight. Pathways students will support the younger children throughout the process, helping them stay within their budgets and wrap their chosen gifts with care.

The Mother’s Day Stall is more than just a shopping experience. It’s a hands‑on lesson in kindness, gratitude, and independence. For many students, it’s their first chance to purchase a gift on their own, making the moment both empowering and memorable.

Behind the scenes, our dedicated Business Innovation students have been hard at work—planning, organising, creating handmade items, setting up, and preparing to run the stall. Their efforts ensure that every child, regardless of budget, can participate and feel included.

When Mother’s Day arrives, those small parcels will carry big smiles—reminders that the simplest, most heartfelt gestures often mean the most.
