Heads of Secondary Years' Report

Dear Hazel Glen Community,

Thank you for another fantastic fortnight.

I'd like to take a moment to acknowledge our wonderful Assistant Principal Team in the Secondary Years, for their dedication and commitment to our students, staff and wider community. Today is Principal's day, and we celebrate and acknowledge the tireless and often thankless work that our Principal team do.

Please join me in recognising and appreciating Emma Meacham (Year 7-8 Assistant Principal), Chris Danher (Elevate and Connections Assistant Principal), Dane Van Meeuwen (Year 9-10 Assistant Principal), Darcy Vallance (Wellbeing Assistant Principal) and Michael Rogneda (Year 11-12 Assistant Principal).

Our College would not be the same without you.

The last fortnight has certainly been busy. We have welcomed families on site for Year 10 Course Counselling; thank you to all in attendance for a successful senior subject selection process, as well as the Careers Expo, which was certainly a hit. Our students have been out on various excursions, including attending Parliament House, IMAX, Melbourne Museum, and ArtVo.

Recently, the senior leadership team reviewed our Attitudes to School Survey data, and this shows remarkable growth this year for how our students are reporting they feel about coming to school at Hazel Glen. It is very pleasing to hear that all of the efforts and work of our Teaching and ES staff to build positive connections with students is paying off and recognised by our community. I am immensely proud of the continuous improvement of our College community in making Hazel Glen College the best school it can be.

Looking ahead, we have much to turn our attention to over the coming weeks. Our Year 12 Cohort is nearing closer toward their schooling journey. I encourage families to take the time to speak with our young people undertaking Year 12, and what they can be doing to prepare and organise themselves to maintain focus, effort, and personal wellbeing over the coming weeks. As we lead into the final study break in September, ahead of VCE exams and final assessments for our VCE VM students, it is a timely reminder for our senior students to keep positive, consistent habits in preparation for their end of schooling journey, as well as a reminder to enjoy the moments along the way and companionship with their peers.

The next few weeks will include a range of exciting events, with Science Week in Week 6, Book Week in Week 7 and our college production also in Week 7. Tickets are now on sale, so please do support our students and show your attendance at what will be an incredible performance of Beauty and the Beast.

I remind all families to continue to access the Compass Portal for student results and achievement, which is regularly communicated upon completion of units and assessments. Semester 1 exam results will also be visible and accessible to families via Compass Learning Tasks.

Thank you to our community for their continued support of our students and staff throughout the term, and we look forward to the next few weeks ahead.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Alexandra Janceski
