Kindergarten Classroom News – Week 10, Term 2

 

Personal Health and Safety Unit

 

This term, our Kindergarten class has embarked on an important learning journey focused on personal health and safety. We believe empowering our young learners with knowledge about personal safety is crucial for their wellbeing.  We will continue this unit next term.

 

Unit Highlights

 

What We're Learning:

- Identifying safe and unsafe situations

- Understanding personal boundaries

- Recognising trusted adults

- Basic safety strategies

 

Key Learning Objectives

- Develop awareness of personal safety

- Learn to communicate concerns

- Build confidence in protecting themselves

 

We have been doing this through these classroom activities:

 

1. Safety Circle Discussion

   - Students will learn about personal space

   - Practise using clear communication

   - Identify trusted family and school support networks

 

2. Role-Playing Scenarios

   - Safe interaction demonstrations

   - Learning to say "No" confidently

   - Understanding when to seek help

 

These lessons consolidate our Religious Education lessons, especially The Principle of the Primacy of God, Love of God, Love of NeighbourGod made each person unique and how we should always treat others with respect and love. God loves all people regardless of what their differences are.

 

 

 

 

Mathematics: Learning About Time

 

This fortnight, our Kindergarten mathematicians are exploring an exciting new concept: telling time! We're focusing on understanding analog and digital clocks, helping our young learners develop crucial time-telling skills.

 

What We're Learning:

 

Clock Exploration Objectives:

- Recognise the parts of an analog clock

- Read time to the hour (o'clock)

- Understand the position of hour and minute hands

 

We are doing this through these classroom activities

 

1. Analog Clock Construction

   - Students will create a class paper clock face

   - Learn to identify hour and minute hands

   - Practice positioning hands to show different times

 

2. Time Matching Games

   - Matching digital times to analog clock representations

   - Learning to say "o'clock" times correctly

Practice at Home

 

You can support your child's learning by:

- Pointing out clocks around the house

- Asking them to read the time

- Playing simple time-telling games

- Understand the difference between hour and minute hands

- Read times to the hour accurately

 

Helpful Tip

 

Use a large, clear analog clock at home to help reinforce learning. Colourful, child-friendly clocks can make learning fun!
