A Message from David & Cam

The excitement has been building and we cannot wait to participate in the Colour Explosion next Tuesday. Based on how cold it is today, I am so glad we changed the date! I understand that the change of date does not suit all, however based on the forecast, Tuesday's weather is going to be a much more enjoyable experience for our kids. This event is such a highlight for the students and we want this to be the best one yet!
The course is planned and we have made a couple of exciting changes which will be a hit with the kids. A reminder that students come to school in clothes that they will run in and they will definitely get wet, dirty and colourful!! A towel and a change of clothes for the trip home is also a good idea.
Here is the information about the day that was sent on Compass:
Our community is incredible! We have already smashed our $22,000 target AND the $29,000 target to slime and feather the Chocolate Thief! This is an amazing achievement by our community and we cannot thank you all enough for your continued support of these events. We have seen the great things that our fundraising can do for our school and are excited to use the funds raised from this event to further enhance our learning spaces with new furniture and resourcing for our classrooms.
Online donations close on Tuesday. You can donate here:

Junior School Council (JSC)
The JSC are an integral part of our overall student leadership team and have an important role in shaping our school to be the best that it can be. Each year, a member of each class from 2-6 selects a representative based on an application process. All of the students who put in an application did a great job articulating the reasons why they would like to be on the council, along with some terrific ideas to make our school better.
Congratulations to the following students who will form the 2026 JSC. We look forward to seeing what great ideas you come up with!

Harmony Week
Last week the whole school celebrated our diversity through a range of activities for Harmony Week. This included a highly successful bake sale. Students, parents and other community members were spoilt for choice at the bake sale with a vast array of baked goods that were on offer. It was really lovely to see the support for this event and a reminder of how great our community is.
We also finished the week with a whole school dress up. Students and staff came in either orange (the colour of Harmony Day) or items of clothing to represent their cultural heritage. This prompted many discussions about our diversity as well as promoting inclusion and helping us celebrate the individuals that make up our great community.
Student Leadership Conference
On Wednesday, the four school captains, along with Sarah Myers, attended the Youth Leadership 'Dream and Lead' Conference in the city at the Melbourne Convention Centre. The conference is designed to support primary school students in discovering their leadership potential, whilst providing them with strong foundations to succeed. Throughout the day, our captains participated in a range of activities to develop their problem-solving skills, and increase their confidence and independence.
They were fortunate enough to listen to special guest speakers from different organisations who spoke about what leadership is and the skills and attributes needed to be an effective leader. They learnt about and practised skills related to listening, resilience, empathy and problem solving and how to build trust.
Highlights from the students were all about the great guest speakers, the music, mingling and the games!
Planning Week
This week has been planning week for Term 2 for each of our Professional Learning Teams (PLTs). Each teaching team is released from the classroom for a day to partake in their planning day. During this time the teams work together to sequence the curriculum for the term, analyse student data, plan for support and extension to ensure all students are challenged, celebrate the academic success of the students and plan for any further events and activities during the term. These are really important days for our teaching teams and work to ensure that all the students are set up for success for the following term. Thank you to Amy and the team leaders for all their efforts planning and running these days.
Interschool Sport
Last Thursday and Friday, our students got out there and represented AGPS with pride at the Laverton District Interschool Sports. We had teams in cricket, basketball, hockey, t-ball, and tennis.
All our teams competed hard and played each game with great spirit. We’ve also received really positive feedback from other schools about our students’ attitude, teamwork, and respect. This is something we are very proud of.
Well done to everyone who took part and to all the staff who made this happen for our students.
