Year Level Leaders Report

End of Term 2: Year 7 and 8 Leader Report

YEAR 7

As we come to the end of a long and exhausting term two, I would like to congratulate the Year 7s on the completion of their first semester of secondary school.

Students worked diligently on their assessment tasks, reinforced their organisational skills and managed competing work deadlines with responsibility.

We are proud of how well our Year 7s are demonstrating the school values every day and awarded our first Silver HRRRT point certificates of the year to two students: Reuben Singh and Zack Carey.

The silver award recognises twenty-five times a teacher has considered a student to be notably exemplifying the school values of High Expectations, Respect, Responsibility, Resilience and Teamwork. A significant achievement for less than two terms!

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Ms Kasey Boxell for her wonderful support of the Year 7 students in her time as Junior School Assistant and congratulate her on her new role as Year 11 level leader.

Ms Boxell has been instrumental in the students' smooth start to Year 7 this year and will be missed by all of us in the Junior school. In her place, however, it is a pleasure to welcome Mr Grant Bowman to the Junior Student Services team. Mr Bowman is familiar to many of our students as a Mentor, English and Humanities teacher and we are sure he will be a wonderful support to both the junior students and the rest of the Junior Student Services team.

Wishing all our Year 7 families a refreshing and safe holiday break, and I look forward to seeing everyone's smiling faces at the start of Term 3!

YEAR 8

The year 8s have had a successful term and semester both academically, not only completing their first exams of the year, but  also conducting themselves to a high standard, including in sports.

A special congratulations to the year 8 netball girls who won their division competition and are now through to the next round of the competition. Also well done to the students who represented the college to a high standard at the regional section of the cross country.

We have already officially started semester 2. I hope all students are able to reflect on their exam results and study habits,  as well a their reports when they see them, in order to improve and stride for success

We start next term with our athletics carnival and encourage all the students to involve themselves in the day.

The school production will also be next semester with many year 8 representatives. Good luck to all those involved.

Well done on a great semester 1 to all year 8s.

Year 9 and 10 Leader Report

YEAR 9

Term 2 has commenced with our students and teachers full of energy and enthusiasm. In the Middle School, we have observed our students have settled back into routine, wearing their correct winter uniforms, and are applying themselves in class relative to their personal best.

As we conclude Semester 1, I am delighted to share that our Year 9 students have demonstrated vast growth as learners and as individuals throughout 2024 so far. Having just finished their exam period, I was proud to see their dedication to achieving their personal best and their desire to provide evidence of their learning.

This term has been a busy one, with our Year 9 students undertaking many curricular and extracurricular activities, most recently including Monash Tech School’s ‘BEYOND’ Design Thinking Incursion and the ‘SMASHED’ Health Incursion.

Looking ahead to Term 3, I would like to take this opportunity to remind our school community of the following:

  • Year 9 Reach incursion on Monday July 22nd, will provide valuable mental health knowledge and strategies to our diverse cohort.
  • House Athletics Carnival on Tuesday July 23rd, will be a great opportunity to build school connectedness and for students to showcase their athletic capabilities.
  • Student-led conferences on Thursday 8th August, provides a vital opportunity for students, parents/carers and teachers to discuss student progress and collaboratively set goals for the remainder of the year.

YEAR 10

Year 10 Term Reflection and Looking Ahead:

As we wrap up another term, it's a great time to reflect on the journey we've all taken over the past few months. We've seen tremendous growth, both academically and personally, among our Year 10 students.

From mastering new concepts in the classroom to participating in extracurricular activities and building lasting friendships, this term has been filled with achievements worth celebrating.

As you receive and read through your reports, take the time to recognise both your successes and the areas where you can improve. These reports are valuable tools for understanding your strengths and identifying opportunities for growth.

Parents, we encourage you to discuss the feedback with your children, helping them set realistic and actionable goals for the next term. Whether it's improving study habits, seeking extra help in challenging subjects, or finding a better balance between schoolwork and personal time, there's always room to grow and excel.

Finally, we wish all our Year 10 students and their families a restful and enjoyable break. Take this time to relax, recharge, and reflect on all that you've accomplished. Return to school with renewed energy and enthusiasm, ready to tackle the new challenges and opportunities that the next term will bring.

We look forward to seeing you all refreshed and ready to continue your journey of learning and growth.

Year 11 and 12 Leader Report

YEAR 11

Term 2 was filled with growth and learning opportunities for our students. From mastering new concepts, to exploring creative projects and sitting their first unit exams. We commend your dedication and resilience throughout the term.

As we approach the school holidays, I hope all students take the time to rest and recuperate and connect with others.

Here are some tips to keep in mind before we dive into the new term:

1. Consider setting up a study schedule for Unit two subjects. Break down your study sessions into manageable chunks, focusing on different subjects each day.

2. Remember to take breaks during study sessions to refresh your mind. Engage in activities you enjoy outside of academics – whether it's sports, hobbies, or simply spending time with family and friends.

3. Communication with your teachers is essential for your academic growth. If you have questions about assignments, assessments, or need clarification on any topic, don't hesitate to ask them.

Let's approach term 3 with enthusiasm, determination, and a commitment to our personal and academic goals. Together, we can make next term another successful chapter in our school’s journey.

Have an amazing school holidays!

YEAR 12

Celebrating Milestones – Year 12 Halfway BBQ

Last Friday, on June 21st, our Year 12 VCE students marked a significant milestone with a delightful Halfway BBQ event. Amidst the crisp winter air, students gathered together to share in food and reflect on their journey thus far.

The event not only provided a welcome break from the rigours of study but also served as a moment of connection. Students took the opportunity to engage in meaningful conversations with both peers and teachers, fostering a supportive community that is essential during this crucial academic phase.

As students have now reached the midpoint of their VCE/VM journey, it's a time for both celebration and reflection. The Halfway BBQ allowed students to pause and appreciate how far they've come, while also looking forward to the challenges and successes that lie ahead.

Congratulations to all our Year 12 students for reaching this milestone. Let's continue to support each other as we embark on the next chapter of our academic journey together.
