Leading Teachers Report

End of Term 2: Junior School Report

Dear South Oakleigh College community.

As Term 2 comes to an end it is important for our students to reflect on their learning goals and the feedback received from their teachers.

A great place to start the reflection is the Semester one reports that are release via Compass to parents and students at the end of this Term. Teachers have been busy correcting assessment tasks and exams and providing feedback to our students.

Discussing your child’s report with them is an excellent way to promote dialogue about student learning and progress.

Our Year 8 students recently completed their Semester 1 exams. It was pleasing to see our students applying themselves diligently to the task and completing their exams to their personal best. Exams have now been marked by our teachers and results shared with the students.

Our Year 7 students did not undertake exams, instead continued to focus on their learning tasks.

For Semester 2 there have been some changes to our student services team. Ms Boxell has taken up the Year 11 Leader role for the remainder of the year. As a result, we are pleased to welcome Mr Bowman to the role of Junior School Assistant.

We look forward to Mr Bowman working with our Year 7 and 8 students and we thank Ms Boxell for all her hard work in the Junior School.

I wish all of our students and their families a restful and enjoyable break.

With the winter months upon us it is important that we all take some time to relax, partake in enjoyable activities and return to school ready to go again on the first day of Term 3.

Stay healthy and I look forward to seeing you all in the new Term.

Middle School Report

Dear Middle School Students and Families,

As we conclude the semester, I would like to take this opportunity to reflect on our achievements and look forward to the exciting opportunities that lie ahead.

Semester one has been marked by numerous accomplishments and milestones. In every aspect of our school life, our HRRRT values—High Expectations, Respect, Responsibility, Resilience, and Teamwork—have shone through.

High Expectations were met as students strived for excellence in their studies. Our students have successfully completed their exams, showcasing their dedication and hard work.

Respect and Responsibility were evident in the way our students conducted themselves during exams and classroom activities.

Resilience was demonstrated in overcoming challenges and persisting through demanding times. It seems that the Term 1 floods are long forgotten!

Lastly, Teamwork was seen in collaborative projects, such as our Year 9 ‘Beyond’ Monash Tech School program and Year 10 peer support programs, fostering a strong sense of community within our school.

As we transition into our Semester 2 program, it is essential for our students to set new goals and work diligently towards achieving them.

Goal setting is a powerful tool for personal and academic growth. I encourage all students to take some time during the break to reflect on their progress so far and to set clear, achievable goals for the upcoming term.

Remember, consistent effort and a positive mindset are key to reaching your objectives.

Also, a gentle reminder to all students to ensure that you return in Term 3 in the correct uniform. This includes wearing ties, blazers, and hard leather shoes—please note that Nike Air Forces are not acceptable footwear with the academic uniform. PE Tracksuit pants must also have the College logo. Adhering to the uniform policy reflects our commitment to school pride and helps prepare our students for a professional workplace in the future.

I hope all students (and families) enjoy a well-earned break, recharge, and return ready to tackle the challenges and opportunities that Term 3 will bring.

Senior School Report

To all VCE students for finishing up Term 2. Year 11 students worked hard and attempted their mid year exams. I encourage students to act on teacher feedback and improve further. All students enrolled in VCE ¾ , scored VCE/VET ¾ and VCE VM ¾ successfully attempted the GAT on 18th June 2024.

With Term 2 holidays coming up , I encourage students to engage in activities to enhance wellbeing such as going for walks, exercising, playing a sport , exploring hobbies, practicing mindfulness, limiting screen time if possible and seeking support when needed.

I wish the community a happy and safe break.
