Principal's Report

"The only impossible journey is the one you never begin." - Tony Robbins

Within our school community, I am so proud of the creativity and ingenuity displayed by our students. Their ideas brought to life in a range of PBLs demonstrates the power of curiosity and learning. The entrepreneurial spirit was showcased by our students in the 'All Ability Zone - The Shark Tank Pitch' as part of our Year 10 Community Connections program. Their groundbreaking idea to introduce disability-inclusive gym equipment is a direct link to the learning in Innovate and the universal design PBL learning. Congratulations to Angus B, Angus C, Harrison R, Jacob A, Jye H, Nate D, Oskar V, and Zac M for their remarkable vision and initiative.

Lunch with the Principal

During this term, our Year 11 students were treated to a pizza lunch at the MCC Pavilion. It provided a wonderful chance for us to connect, which is particularly meaningful given the challenges this cohort faced with the pandemic affecting their Years 7 and 8.

Year 9 Wellbeing Days

The Year 9 Wellbeing Days serve as a vivid reminder of the power of beginning new journeys. From global excursions aimed at fostering positive change to engaging in local activities, our students demonstrate a commitment to nurturing their own wellbeing while making a difference in the world around them.

VCE GAT (General Achievement Test)

Students studying VCE Unit 3/4 subjects were all in the Activity Centre to complete the GAT on Tuesday. This pen-and-paper assessment, designed to evaluate general knowledge and skills, plays a pivotal role in ensuring the quality of VCE assessments while also providing students with an opportunity to demonstrate their proficiency in literacy and numeracy. Beyond its immediate purpose, the GAT holds additional significance, serving as a valuable resource for students who may require a derived exam score in unforeseen circumstances. Our students approached the test with maturity and diligence.

Junior Science Olympiad

Well done to the Year 7 - 10 students who took on the challenge of the online Junior Science Olympiad exam last week. These exams cover a range of science topics and could lead to representing Australia at the International Junior Science Olympiad.

Japanese Exchange

Excitingly, our Year 10 & 11 Japanese students are embarking on our first Japanese exchange program next week. As they travel to Japan, they will not only discover new landscapes but also nurture cultural understanding and forge friendships through homestays. Wishing them safe travels and a journey filled with unforgettable new experiences.

Year 9 Camps

Our Year 9 students will embark on transformative adventures during their choose-your-own adventure camps next week. From hiking to urban expeditions and reef-to-rainforest explorations, these experiences offer a gateway to personal growth and discovery.  I will be heading to Cairns for the Reef to Rainforest camp and am looking forward to the warm weather.

Year 10 Work Experience

Our Year 10 students are about to begin an impactful week of Work Experience placements. These firsthand insights into the professional world offer invaluable opportunities for our students to explore potential career pathways and gain practical knowledge. As they prepare to make VCE choices in Term 3, these experiences not only provide clarity but also empower our students to take the first steps towards their future aspirations.

Student Success

The remarkable achievements of our students in both sports and individual endeavours beautifully resonate with Tony Robbins' quote. Just as Robbins emphasises the importance of taking the first step, our Boys Basketball team earned a well-deserved spot in the U20 Division 2 Victorian State Finals, a testament to their dedication and hard work under the guidance of their coach, Mr Jordan Baechler.

Additionally, we celebrate Kiara's outstanding performance in the Australian Swimming Olympic Trials. Her determination and dedication have propelled her to remarkable heights, exemplifying the spirit of perseverance and pursuit of excellence. Kiara's achievements highlight the significance of initiating journeys and embracing challenges. We are immensely proud of our athletes and their remarkable accomplishments, showcasing the transformative power of taking that first step towards greatness.

Teacher Excellence

I am pleased to announce that Teacher Aimee Blackman has successfully completed her Master's degree. Please join us in congratulating her on this outstanding achievement. Aimee's dedication to her studies is truly inspiring, and we look forward to benefiting from her enhanced expertise in the classroom.

Parent Social Evening

The attendance of parents at last night's social evening signifies a collective journey of fostering strong community bonds, and for some, beginning new journeys together, laying the foundation for a vibrant and supportive school community. By actively engaging in school activities, parents play a vital role in creating a nurturing environment where students can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally, thereby supporting their holistic development.

Art Show

I hope that you are able to join us at our Art Show next week (Thursday 27 June, 5.30pm) showcasing an array of vibrant artworks crafted by the talented students of Beaumaris Secondary College from Year 7 & 8, alongside the artistic endeavours of Year 4 – 6 students from our neighbouring primary schools and the Better Health Network Adult Community Options program. This event promises a wonderful opportunity to come together as a community and enjoy art together.
