Starting times

A reminder that Period 1 starts at 8.30am. It is important that students arrive in time for all lessons so they do not miss essential instructions or content. We appreciate parent support with this. 

Paul Dillon - Drug and Alcohol Research and Training Australia 

Wednesday 10 April

Year 10, 11 and 12 students will hear from the director and founder of Drug and Alcohol Research and Training Australia, Paul Dillon on Wednesday April 10. Paul will speak to each year group separately, thus it has been necessary to make some adjustments to timetables. Students will be sent the relevant adjustments. 

Paul will discuss the following topics: 

Year 10 - Young people, alcohol and risk taking: Looking after your mates

Year 11 - Alcohol and cannabis: What if something goes wrong? 

Year 12 - Last year at school: What do I need to know about alcohol and other drugs?

Da Vinci Decathlon

Next week teams of students from Years 5-10 will be competing in the Da Vinci Decathlon at The Hutchins School. 

The Da Vinci Decathlon is an academic competition designed to challenge and stimulate the minds of school students. Students compete in teams of eight across 10 disciplines: engineering, mathematics, code breaking, art and poetry, science, English, ideation, creative producers, cartography and legacy.

Families of students who are participating have been sent information from Operoo.

Science and Engineering Challenge

The Science and Engineering Challenge is on again! The Challenge is a fun-filled full day experience on the 15th May for 32 students in Year 10. Groups will put their problem solving skills to the test, competing against other local teams to solve a series of challenges.

Details will be provided to students in class, and an Operoo form will be sent out prior to the day.

Sandy Bay Sailing Club

Saturday 6 & Sunday 7 April

This weekend Friends' will be taking part in the State Team Sailing Championships at Sandy Bay Sailing Club. If any Friends' community members are in the area between 8am - 5pm Saturday and 8am - 3pm Sunday they should come on down and watch excellent team racing.

Theatre Performance

 Year 12 IB Theatre warmly invite you to their Collaborative Project titled ‘Goodwoods’. The class have developed this original piece of theatre and part of their theatrical intention is, “We hope to explore the themes of control and abuse of power through the use of physicality and voice which are essential in portraying those who have power and those who are subservient to it”. Immy, Grace, Miles, Florence and Amelia look forward to hearing from their audience how successfully they achieved their intentions.

Year 10 Meningococcal Immunisations

Year 10 students who were absent for the recent Nimenrix – Meningococcal Disease immunisations are advised to follow up with the following options: 

• Book in with GP
• Book into a local council community clinic (eg. Hobart).
• Book in with a pharmacist immuniser who can administer vaccines under the National Immunisation Schedule (this is a new option). Please ring ahead to make sure they are available and have the vaccine/s you require in stock.

Chamber Music Concert

Tuesday 9 April |  6.00pm - 7.00pm

We are pleased to invite you to the Friends’ Chamber Music Concert at The Farrall Centre. This is a wonderful opportunity for our young musicians to present music on a smaller scale in an intimate setting. Through this annual performance opportunity, students and audiences alike have discovered a lifelong appreciation for collaborative chamber music.
