Mother's Day Movie 

Wednesday 8 May - 5pm to 6.30pm | The Farrall Centre

All students and their families are warmly invited to our Mother's Day event to celebrate their Mum, Guardian, Grandparent or special family friend. This is a free event and is accessible to all students and their families. This year we will be offering a viewing of the family favourite Paddington, along with complimentary ice cream and popcorn treats.

Uniform Shop Holiday Trading Hours

The Friends’ School Uniform Shop will close for the school holidays on Thursday 11 April at 5.00pm and re-open for Term 2 on Friday 26 April 2024 at 9.00am

 

Extended Trading Hours

Friday 26 April 9.00am – 12.00noon

Monday 29 April 8.00am – 1.00pm

 

We will return to normal trading days on Tuesday 30 April 2024 at 8.00am.

Chamber Music Concert

Tuesday 9 April |  6.00pm - 7.00pm

We are pleased to invite you to the Friends’ Chamber Music Concert at The Farrall Centre. This is a wonderful opportunity for our young musicians to present music on a smaller scale in an intimate setting. Through this annual performance opportunity, students and audiences alike have discovered a lifelong appreciation for collaborative chamber music.

The Friends' School Fair - Event Details

Saturday 4 May | 12pm to 3pm on the Argyle Street Campus

 

All students, their families and The Friends' School community are warmly invited to The Friends' School Fair, at the Argyle Street Campus, on Saturday 4 May. The day will encompass a variety of foods, games, activities and stalls. This year proceeds from the fair will be proudly donated to our charity partner Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary.

 

What to expect:

  • A wide range of food options, from international cuisines to local favourites including food trucks, coffee van, freshly pressed juices, ice cream, sushi and freshly made pizzas.
  • Family-Friendly Atmosphere: Bring your friends and family for an enjoyable afternoon filled with good food and fun activities.
  • Entertainment: Enjoy live music and performances from our Friends' School students.
  • School Stalls: bake sale, providore, adopt-a-bear, plants and seedlings, books and boardgames, crafts and artworks.
  • Activities for all ages, including Tommy Choo Choo Train, badge making, student lead side show games and a silent disco.

The Friends' School Fair - Volunteers & Donations

Call for volunteers on SignUp:

Registration is now open for volunteers who would like to donate their time to help on school stalls. Shifts are available on Friday 3 May during set-up and before, during and after the fair on Saturday 4 May. These stalls include; books and boardgames, cake stand, providore, silent disco and Primary School Year Group stalls. Please use the link below to select which stall and which shift you would like to assist.

 

Please select the number of volunteer spots per person, per session when registering.  If you book for additional people (family members), please add their name details.

Community Craft Stalls: 

Do you or someone you know from within the Friends' School Community specialise in crafting? We are opening up invitations to participate at The Friends' School Fair to Community members who create craft products including; knitting, cards, earrings, crochet, arts etc. Please contact Sally Norris if you have any questions or would like to submit your interest. 

 

Providore Stall:

Stall Coordinator Allison Black is looking for donations which can be made into preserves. These can be dropped at Reception (enter at 23 Commercial Road, North Hobart):

  • Jams, preserves, sauces or relishes
  • Fresh produce, including; tomatoes, lemons, quinces, apples, plums, rhubarb

Bake and Cake Stall:

Now would be a good time to start planning what you would like to contribute to the Bake and Cake Stall, which can be donated closer to the time. Donations could include; cakes, muffins, slices or cupcakes. For more information please contact Jennifer Stacey.

 

Items to donate:

We welcome all families to get involved by donating their time, services or goods. The holidays might be a good opportunity to have a look around the home for items you might like to donate. 

  • Books in good condition (no magazines please) - suitable for children & adults
  • Friends' School Uniform - in good condition
  • Board games - in good condition
  • Bottles of wine - for wine lucky dip

Music Ensembles

Co-curricular music ensembles have kicked off. If your child is interested in joining one of our many ensembles, please encourage them to talk to a member of the music staff who will be able to suggest an ensemble appropriate to their instrument and experience. Quaker Meetings for Worship

All members of The Friends’ School community are welcome to attend our Meeting for Worship any Sunday from 10.00am, closing about 11.00am, with morning tea available afterwards.

 

Children are always welcome and there is a Children’s Meeting held concurrently with the Meeting for Worship. They learn about Quaker values through a range of interesting and fun activities. Around 10.50am the children join the Meeting for Worship, settling into the gathered Meeting for the last 10 minutes, usually sitting with their parents.

Thursday Morning Meeting for Worship

Members of The Friends' School community are welcome to attend a short Meeting for Worship held each Thursday morning during term time, starting at 7.45am. Just come quietly in when you can and join us until 8.20am in the Hobart Quaker Meeting House, which is located just below the Clemes office on Boa Vista Road.

Community Yoga

Wednesdays 7.45am - 8.15am | Hodgkin Hall

 

An inspiring way to start your day with energising movement, focused breathing and a moment for relaxation and stillness.  All members of the school community are welcome to attend and no prior yoga experience is necessary. 

 

Julia will meet you outside the door on the Carr Street side of the Senior School at 7.40am. If you would like more information contact our school Yoga teacher Julia Gibson.
