Principal Reflections

Dear Parents and Carers,
Student Support
At St Edward's, we are committed to responding to each student's social, emotional, and learning needs with fairness, compassion and consistency. Just as every child learns differently, every child also requires different levels of support to thrive. While some students need additional support at various times, others navigate school life with greater independence.
It is a privilege to lead a school where supporting students is truly a shared responsibility. Our staff, students and families work together in partnership to create the best possible outcomes for every child. We are committed to continually strengthening our knowledge and embracing evidence-informed and innovative practices that help our students develop the skills, confidence and resilience they need to flourish.
Our approach to student wellbeing is guided by the Living Well, Learning Well framework, which provides a consistent, compassionate and restorative approach to supporting behaviour across our school. Rather than simply responding to behaviour, we focus on teaching the skills students need to regulate their emotions, make positive choices, repair relationships, and re-engage in learning successfully.
Central to this approach is our Rules for Living Dial (student version), which provides staff and students with a clear, predictable process for responding to behaviour. The dial promotes consistency across the school, while recognising that every situation and every child is different. It outlines graduated levels of support, from gentle reminders and classroom reflection, through to additional support from school leaders when required. At every stage, our goal is to help students Recover, Re-establish and Re-engage (RRR) by reflecting on their choices, restoring relationships and returning to learning with dignity and confidence.
This approach ensures students are supported, not labelled, expectations remain high, and every child is given the opportunity to learn from mistakes and experience success.
Together, as staff, families and students, we create a safe, respectful and inclusive learning environment where every child is known, valued and empowered to thrive.
Thank you for your continued partnership and for the trust you place in us as we work together to support the wonderful young people in our care.
Manners Matter
At St Edward's, we believe that good manners are much more than saying "please" and "thank you". They are an important way to show respect, kindness, and care for one another. Greeting others with a smile, listening when someone is speaking, using respectful language and showing gratitude all help to create a school where everyone feels known, valued and welcome.
As part of our Living Well, Learning Well approach, we encourage our students to practise these small but powerful habits every day. Manners strengthen relationships, build a positive school culture and help our children develop into confident, compassionate young people.
We are grateful for our families' support in reinforcing these values at home.
