Heads of Secondary Years' Report

To our wonderful Hazel Glen community,
Over the past two weeks, there has been a great deal happening across the Secondary Years at Hazel Glen College, with students continuing to demonstrate our College values of Respect, Relationships, Resilience and Responsibility in all aspects of school life.
It has been wonderful to see students actively engaging in learning opportunities both inside and outside the classroom.
Thank you to all of the mothers and mother figures in our community who attended the Mother's Day breakfast last week. It was a beautiful morning of celebration and recognition of the important and cherished role that mothers play in our families' lives.
This week, our Year 10 cohort embarked on their work experience placements. Our teachers have been speaking with their employers and enjoying hearing about what responsibilities and tasks each of them has been engaging in, and how they have conducted themselves in the workforce.
A special acknowledgement must go to our incredible Education Support staff as we celebrate Education Support Staff Day on 15 May. Our ES staff play an essential role in supporting students, staff and families each and every day. Their dedication, care and commitment contribute significantly to the success and wellbeing of our students, and we thank them for the invaluable work they do across the College community.
Next week, we celebrate Education Week. The theme for Education Week is 'Showcase Your School'. Please take a moment to check out our social media platforms, where we will be sharing and showcasing some of the amazing facets of our school.
On Monday 18th of May we will acknowledge IDAHOBIT Day (International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Interphobia and Transphobia), recognising the importance of inclusion, respect and belonging within our College community. Students are invited to join in a range of wellbeing activities throughout Monday that encourage connection, kindness and conversations around creating safe and supportive environments for all members of our College community.
As we approach the midpoint of the term, Year 10 and Year 11 students are also preparing for upcoming examinations. These assessments provide an important opportunity for students to demonstrate their learning and further develop valuable study and time-management skills. We encourage students to begin preparing early, maintain organised study routines and seek support from their teachers where required. Families can support students during this period by encouraging consistent study habits, healthy routines and regular attendance. All exam timetables, information about exams and communication will be shared via Compass.
Thank you to our students, staff and families for your continued support and contribution to the positive culture within the Secondary Years at Hazel Glen College. We look forward to another exciting and successful few weeks ahead.
Warm regards,
